my friend is in bits here in my apartment tonight. she has been seeing a guy for the past few months and having sex etc and he told her he has aids when he was drunk tonight. she is frightened that she might have picked it up. she said she used condoms every time he came but that she had one instance when she was drunk where she didnt use a condom for about 5 seconds but he did not come she said. she also gave him blowjobs often. given that he is not joking with her (as he is a bit of a messer) what are her chances of having caught hiv?

We're not doctors, we can't tell her how likely it is that she has AIDS or HIV. She needs to go to her doctor and get tested.

No point in sticking the head in the sand and ignoring it.

As one of the above posters has pointed out no here can answer that. She needs to see someone about this,as far as I'm aware the virus takes 4 months to manifest in the body, but maybe if she went to one of the women's clinics they should be able to give her some advice in the meantime.
PS Should the guy turn out to be "messing" about having the virus,he really deserves a kick in the goolies for being such a tw*t......

OP, HIV is very fragile virus, that barely lives for 5 seconds outside human body.. it needs to pass (with big amounts of it) directly to your body through blood.. so risk is extremly low.

If your friend has healty life, and her thing down is healty with no scars, chances would be almost zero.

we had many cases where couple where sleeping togahter for months and one of them didnt caught it at all (especially when one is circumcised)..

my suggestion is, if the risk is ultimitely high (hospital screening and checklist ticked are required by hospital staff) is to take a PEP (usually not prescribed unlesd its serious, which in your case might not be.. doctor will decide (sometimes because its very very very expensive treatment that the gov doesnt want to spend on:) )) so long as you visit emergency before 72 hours of the incident.. this pep is like hiv medicine but stronger and kills any chance for hiv to live in your body during the window period.. the side effects are very serious, but its your last resort.. no gaurantee to solve the issue, but has high success rate..

ps. i come from medical background, but yet does not substitute her from asking for a real test AFTER 6 months for a CONFIRMED result. she MUST go to A&E NOW!
