I'm going to have a look at one in Kildare on Thursday. Its a taxi. 00-KK reg.(Face lift model) 3.5L petrol engine. Full leather. Electric seats, windows etc. All the usual extras on a car like itself. He's looking for €2800 for it. Full years test. Part service history. I offered him €2000 over the phone but he says he won't agree on a price over the phone. Its a nice car and I'm genuinely thinking about it, but its such a big engine, and big engine= lots of €€€€€ for petrol.

I'll be using it for taxi work about 4-5 days a week. Afew mates said it will kill me putting petrol into it :( On the plus side, tax is only €82 not €1566 :).

In my opinion its cheap-ish as some go for €3000+ on Donedeal.

Anyone here know any problems with these cars ? Are they hard to re-sell ? How bad are they on petrol ?

    Thanks !!!

I still think that Ls400 is better option than Legend, about same costs but more of a car.

But what's the point in getting a taxi plate if PSV insurance is €3k?

    Yeah but you're biased!

You think all taxi/hackney drivers are paying that for insurance?

OP, can you put an 11 year old car on the road now as a taxi? I know there is no bother if it is yours already but can you buy an 11 year old as a taxi?

I'm struggling to accept that you could not have any idea of the mpg, 20 ish max would be seen I reckon, lots less on short fares.

Even if it was half that for PSV insurance it'd still be a false economy just to drive an LS400.

    Or am I missing something?

If it was half that then the entire annual tax has been saved :)
PSV insurance costs a good bit less for many drivers too.

    Honest John - Honda Legend

Hondas seem to have weak autoboxes.

I was thinking about an LS400, but couldn't find any LS400 taxi's for sale, and with that new rule I can't just buy one and register it as a taxi. If I was to buy new one I'd probably have to sell my house !!

You all make it sound so easy, tax it as an spsv. for cheap tax. What about the fact that you have to take the exam. and the licence to drive costs 250 and the N.C.T. is every year and also the S.G.S. test( all money) also you need a tax clearance cert and for older cars it may be every 6 months soon, go ahead, let us know how you get on . The only licences being issued are limo and wheelchair. You cannot transfer a hackney or wheelchair only a taxi and the car must be under 3 years old, but hey, these are only minor points until you come to do it.
