Missing a week in November of first year?

    Hello there :)

Well, it looks like I will be going to Belarus in November with the Belarussian Orphanage Project. Can't wait! :D

However, I am (hopefully) starting first year of college this year and have been informed that I will miss important assessments around that time.

Is this true? Is there any way of catching up? And how do I approach informing the college about my week long absence?

    Thanks for your help :)

It's impossible to know when your assessments will be due without us even knowing what course you're on. In my experience, there are usually assessments due in around then, but just do them before you go and hand them in early.

Every course in UCC has a Course Director, the main person you can go to if you encounter something like this. When you start your course, you will be told the name of this person, where his/her office is located, email address etc.

There is no way of knowing yet until at least when you start your first week of lectures when you will have exams/assignments due. It is different for every course. Make it your business to contact the Course Director ASAP after you are aware of exams coinciding with your trip to Belarus (good on you BTW!!) and they will be able to help/advise you. As Faith said, hand them in early if assignments are due, or look about getting an extension. Do this ASAP when the course starts though, as it will show you are concientious and don't want to sacrifice marks. Best of luck in getting your course :)
