    Hi,
I just got an iMac and am looking to set-up home sharing via iTunes.
I downloaded the remote app from the apple store and have paired it to the iMac but the iphone cannot locate the itunes library.
I have searched the web for answers but I am new to the world of the iMac.
    Any help much appreciated.
    thanks

    is iTunes on?

go into iTunes preferences. click sharing, and tick "share my library on local network".

are all devices on the same network? my router has 2.5ghz/5ghz which both show up as separate networks. all devices need to be on same network.

thanks for the reply, yeah I have it set up in itunes in preferences and have keyed in the four digit code no problem.
When you say on the same network, what do you mean? How can I check this out?
I just have one router for broadband from Eircom, do I need any other other hardware??? Am very confused with the whole thing.

Many thanks for your help, have spent ages on the web looking for answers,

He means the same wifi network both the mac and iPhone connected to the same router, The eircom router could be your problem there were loads of people saying they where having problems with eircoms router.have a look back a few pages or search boards for it hope ya get sorted.

There inlies your problem! The zyxel router doesn't work with home sharing in my experience. My advice, get a wireless router and put the eircom router in bridge mode.

Been through similar have iPhone iPod touch and apple tv in the house iPad on the way next probably ....

Was onto eircom support who were useless
As the apple devices all have Internet connection eircom is happy
They don't care that the router is at fault for these devices not seeing each other
Went through apple support and the guy there done all the checks with me and then said it was 99% the router
The only other test is to set ip on someone else's network to make sure the router is the problem
He said there are 2 routers that hive them a problem sometimes the eircom zytel model and some BT one
He also said eircom have said they have a fix coming for the router supposedly
But it could be tomorrow or 10 months down the road
    He was most helpful

    On a side
I told him i was setting up a server for home movies and hoping to stream them to atv2
He suggested I get a router
    That has
    n wireless
    801.1
    150 or 300nbs
So I guess maplins will get a call in the next few days

I have the Netgear WNDR3700 router hooked upto the eircom box. I'd recommend this setup if you want to enjoy apple's products as intended!

I'd just point out too that with eircom you can forget serving you're media up for access outside of you're network, the upload speeds are too slow. With an N router you will have perfect streaming on your LAN alright.
