TRS after marriage

    Hi all,
    Just looking for some advice.
I bought a House in November 2009 as a first-time buyer (single person).
Recently, in July 2011, I got married.
Can I update my claim for TRS to include my Wifes Tax Credit and if so, how do I go about it?
We're currently filling out the paperwork to reallocate all of her Credits to me for my salary, I understand that this won't come into effect until January 2012 but that we should be able to apply for a tax rebate to cover the months July to December of this year.

Will my TRS be automatically updated or do I have to do any additional paperwork.

    Thanks for any help/info

Firstly, you need to contact the TRS section in Revenue to inform them of your change in circumstances (i.e. married)

    TRS Helpline on 1890 46 36 26 or email trsadmin@revenue.ie

Your wife will then have to apply online for TRS to avail of any Mortgage Interest Relief on the following link:

    https://www.ros.ie/trs/claim.html?execution=e2s1

    HTH

Can claims be backdated to date of marriage ?

    Hi Colm1982,

TRS prior year claims can only be backdated four years (just like the Med1). So if you married before 2009 you can only claim from 2009 - date
