iphone wifi charge

    Hi just wondering is their anyway that i can stop being charged 82cent a day when i use wifi at home on my iphone?

    Are you sure it's wifi you're using? This doesn't make any sense

    turn off mobile data cos it's obviously using it while your out and about

    Thanks lads,ye i have the 3g switched off and each day i connect to my home wifi i get charged 82cents.I'll turn off mobile data now and see if i don't get charged tomorrow.

    Switched to bill pay but having a bit of a dispute with the company and waiting for it to be sorted,so just checked my bill and i'm being charged 82cent each day i connect to my wifi.

    The iPhone turns the WiFi radio off once the phone goes into standby.
    If your mobile data is enabled then any apps that may use data (e.g. e-mail, facebook, twitter etc.) will use the mobile network once WiFi is unavailable. You will subsequently be charged for it.

    Only way of preventing it is to enable mobile data only when you want to use it. Don't leave it on all the time.

    turning off 3g doesnt disable data, just the 3g radio

    Think about it - how can a mobile phone company charge you for using your WiFi?

    They don't know anything about your wireless setup, whether you use DSL, cable, Wimax. They don't care.

    All they know about is your iPhone connected to their network. And that's what they are charging you for.

    Put the iPhone into airplane mode and then switch back on WiFi only. That is one option. Alternatively, in Settings, go to General->Network and switch 3G off and Cellular Data off.
