Three Parking Fines in one day...

    Hi all,

Just this morning, got 3 parking fines posted to my house all for the same car in the same spot on the same day. Is this allowed? Can I get more than one?

Two of them are timed within 5 minutes of each other which is just bloody ridiculous. I parked in a taxi rank even though I could not see any indication that it was one??? The times of the three fines are 15.55, 17.45 and 17.50. I was given no notice on my windshield or anything like that either.

Will I be able to sort this out easily or what should my next course of action be ?

double jeopardy, you should only have to pay the first one.

Give the fines office a ring

also, go back to where you parked and look for the signs and road markings that say it's a taxi rank. those signs have to be clear. if they're not then you can have grounds for appeal.

Thanks for the replies! I will definitely be ringing to sort out the multiple fines and will check out the signs because I really don't think it's clear that it was a taxi rank as there was several other cars parked there too for the day (it was Sunday so free street parking, or so I thought). Is it also the usual not to get any sort of notice about it on the day because I could have easily gone back another time and made the same mistake without realising!

There was a thread a few months on this topic.

It ran several pages and didn't come to a conclusion.

One side said parking at 9:01 and 9:02 are separate offences, the other said double jeopardy.

OP, the question you are asking can be put in the following fashion...

    Q. If I get a parking ticket while my car is parked in a given spot, can I then leave it there for the rest of the day (i.e. until midnight) and effectively be immune from getting another ticket for the same offence?

My answer to that question is 'no' so as far as I'm concerned you are liable to get multiple tickets if you leave the car there long enough.

Yes well I understand your point, but my situation was that I wasn't aware it was a taxi bay. So with free parking on Sundays I felt no need to move it!

I have no problem with the first two, the third is probably pushing it. Parking in a taxi rank is rated as nuisance parking and I have little sympathy. You should however check that the signs are in place.

More than one parking offence can be commited with the same set of circumstances, simply through the passage of time, e.g. parking moves from free to paid or if there is a time limit given.

I concur with Victor on this. You might get the third one rescinded - probably issused by a different official. I'd say you were lucky not to get one every hour you were there.
