Does Disability Benefit affect your ability to get a mortgage?

I have MS, and am currently on Illness Benefit. I have been off work since diagnosis last year, and recently resigned from my job as it became clear it wasn't something I couldn't go back to.

I am thinking about asking my doc about going on Disability Allowance, as MS is something that will affect me forever, and I don't know when I'll feel well enough to go back to work.

I also understand that if I get a job I am still entitled to some of the DA. Myself and my partner would like to buy a house within the next few years (after we save!!) but I am wondering, can a person claiming DA still apply or is there an issue as it is deemed that I am "disabled"?

    Thanks for any advice!

You can only still get DA if your doctor says your work is rehabilitive in nature and you dont earn more than €120 a week

Ah right. I clearly don't know much about it! Thanks.

Good luck with the saving and getting the mortgage... very hard at the moment.

Just another issue that may not have crossed your mind. Insurance companies may not insure you because of your illness. I have arthritis and even though its not life threatning my insurance premium doubled.
Now they may do but be prepared to be heavily loaded.

What do you mean, life insurance, like?

Ya, mortgage protection. Just something to bear in mind before you go putting your deposit down!
