Reclaiming emergency tax

Hi, really sorry if this has been done before, and I'm 99% sure that it has but I am completely incompitent when it comes to this sort of stuff. Even the simplest stuff seems to go way over my head.

I found out recently that I've been emergency taxed since I started working part time in 2007 (I think anyway). Long time not to cop onto this, I know but I didn't even know what emergency tax was until not so long ago! I went onto revenue.ie, registered and requested a p21.
I got one in the post today and I would like to think that it means I'm due money back but wouldn't like to get too excited about it until it actually happens, being a poor student I can't afford to believe I have money coming to me when it's not actually.

It gives me my income: so and so
Charged as follows: so and so @20% = ****
    Tax Due: ****

Is the Tax Due what I'm owed back and if so how can I go about getting it back?

Thanks for any and all help! :D

    Take each year seperately.

For 2007, do you have payslips or a document from your employer giving your pay and showing what tax was deducted?

Do these figures agree with the Revenue document?

Do the same for the other years.

If the figures all agree, then the revenue statement of "tax due" may mean you owe tax.

Were you allowed the proper tax credits in each of the years?

It is worth spending some time to sort this out, and you can learn a lot online from revenue.ie or citizensinformation.ie or some other sites you will find easily.

Hope this works out for you
