Sorry, new to selling here, and particularly refunding.
Question: Do I refund the seller the money before they send back the item?
    Thanks in advance!

Definitely not, otherwise they would be under no obligation to return it at all. Also, you should insist that they return it by registered post, but it is more for the buyer's piece of mind than yours.

    Thanks for the snappy response!
Also then, will I have to pay for the cost of them shipping the item back to me?

It depends, if you get an item from a online store and it arrives broken they have to pay the postage back.

I am not sure of the legal status of ebay sales, morally I would pay the return postage if there was a problem with the item which was my fault (e.g. if it arrived damaged due to my bad packaging, or if I made a mistake in a specification detail, like said it was 110Volt when it was 230V). If the buyer has just changed their mind they should pay.

If you want to be very nice you can do so... but my experience with other sellers would be that sending the item back is at the buys cost. (they do say that in their listings though).

Why are they sending it back to you ?
If they have opened a buyers complaint with your through Paypal then all the money they paid for the item would be sent back to them... in which case you paid for the postage to them so they pay for the postage back to you... if that makes sense :)
