hello guys I bought an iPhone from a us buyer.
I paid on the 13/7 and the seller shipped on the 14/7 via usps mail international.

usually it takes 3 - 5 days but it hasn't arrived.

i opened a dispute with paypal and paypal said something like this the seller isn't available to comment at this time. Escalate to a claim

    what does this mean ?

I'm guessing the seller wanted to lose his paypal account. is this so ?

Don't know, but if the seller isn't responding then you need to escalate to a claim ASAP, otherwise the seller could disappear with your money, and you get no phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 880 ✭✭✭Rachiee

escalate the claim immediately there are time constraints with e bay disputes the quicker you do everything the better

message basically means that the seller is not responding do you want to ask for your money back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭freeze4real

i just called paypal and they said I am guaranteed to get my money back if she doesn't reply in 10 days.

I filed as dispute as I haven't received the item in the time frame I normally use to.

This can be due to a number of reasons it could be in customs, if it was they would send out a notification letter etc, or that she didn't send it or she sent it late.

whatever the case I want to be fully covered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭freeze4real

    I still haven't received it.

I'm worried that the seller has all my money.

He still hasn't replied any of my messages and he's not responding to the dispute on paypal as well,.

if he doesn't have the money in his account will paypal give me all my money back ?

Follow the advice above and you should reach a successful outcome.

Ask seller for a USPS tracking number and see where the package is now .

I presume so. That's the whole point of Paypal, and that's why they get to charge you for using them.

The seller wont reply to any of my messages. and USPS priority mail doesn't have tracking ID.

Make sure to escalate the dispute to a claim, if you haven't already. It will take 10 days for your money to be returned, unless the seller responds. Until then, there's nothing more you can do.

I have found that it can often take 3 weeks to get something from the US. Many sellers say that they post in by priority mail but just end up posting it the cheapest way possible. You also have to take into account that your phone may be held by irish customs. They may be preparing a letter for you to inform you of custom charges on the phone - they did it to me with the last phone that I bought!!

exactly - more than likely intercepted by customs. when they contact you will have to provide receipt proof for total cost including shipping and they will calculate what you have to pay. need to take this into account when buying stuff from outside Europe. VAT, collection fee and even duty on top of that will be payable.

I have taken it to co9nsideration that it might be in customs but if it was there they would have sent a letter to me by now.

plus USPS priority mail flat rate boxes do not require customs I've bought 4 iPhone's from the states using USPS and this is the first time i'm having something like this.

I just want the seller to reply or the iphone to arrive:(:(.

Just to touch on two things you mentioned. What was the exact method you paid for? As most if not all of the International services by USPS offer tracking numbers.

Also ALL mail outside the EU require customs. Its just that not all get stopped by customs. I have gotten many parcels in to Ireland without customs batting an eye lid to them. And I have stuff sent from the US all the time.

    I paid via paypal.

if customs had it I would have gotten a letter from now which I dont have as hey haven't sent any.

whats worrying is the lack of communication from the seller.

Sorry I meant which USPS service did you pay for. As all of them are tracked internationally. So the seller should have the tracking details

Not always. I have had things sit in customs for more than a week. As An Post take over from USPS and sometimes take a while to get things cleared from Customs. If you had the tracking number you could call An Post.
whats worrying is the lack of communication from the seller.

Definitely and by the lack of details sent to you one could guess that it was never actually sent. Hope it works out for you.

I used USPS priority mail international which was $13.95.

I'm confused here now - as you say that you used USPS priority mail international which cost $13.95 dollars .

Are you in the USA ? - did you sent the parcel ?

Why did you decide to use USPS ?

And by the way - Tallaghtoutslaws is correct , - If the package was sent via USPS , there is a tracking number available even if it only cost $3.00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭freeze4real

My bad, i told the seller to use USPS priority mail international which cost $13.95 dollars.

The seller agreed to this so i paid the full fee including the shipping fee.

This is not the first time i've used USPS. I have used it on four occasions and the packages which were iPhone's arrives in no less than 4 days.

here is a link that says USPS priority mail does not have track and trace.

Thats fine - I received a package recently from Texas and it cost $4.50 and it included a tracking number

That's new to me. i will send the seller another email asking for the tracking number, that's if she replies.

yea thats it true but if you look at the footnote that's the double ** it says Not available for Priority Mail International Flat Rate Envelopes or Small Flat Rate Priced Boxes which i used.

If your shipping method from the US cost only $13.95 it's going to take a lot longer than 3-5 days. The last time I shipped something to someone in the US by a courier that would have it there that fast it cost about 50 euro.

At a $13.95 shipping fee, I wouldn't start getting worried until it gets passed the 3-4 week mark.

Trust me he would have a tracking number. I went to the post office this morning and checked it. That enevelope they mention would only fit documents and the small box is tiny and wouldn't fit an Iphone as its tiny also and designed for small things. Large and Medium boxes are tracked small boxes under 4 pounds aint. But as I said those small boxes would be barely big enough to fit an Iphone box.

I asked the dude behind the counter he he said anything going international of size will have a tracking number. I sent mail myself back to Ireland 3 parcels total cost $40 total and all 3 had tracking numbers. Dude also said their staff generally advise folk to get it tracked if sending electronics. Cost them no more than $4 extra.

As for delivery times as someone said its 6-10 business days on these packages at that cost. Sure you might have gotten lucky in the past but it could take the full time ye know.

if customs had it I would have gotten a letter from now which I dont have as hey haven't sent any.

The item will be queued in customs, that would take as long as three weeks, but a couple of days is not uncommon. It then gets assigned to an agent who decides what to do, once he has formed and opinion he puts it in writing and it's sent to secretarial where it's queued for posting.

As you've already received a few international packages, this one might have raised a yellow flag, it could also just coincidentally arrived at a time costumes were doing a full audit and stopping everything ~ it happens from time to time.

But I think that's all academic in your case.

This puts the whole situation into another perspective.

All I can do is to wait either for the package to arrive or for the seller to reply.

Thanks for the reply guys I will keep you posted.

If the package was sent USPS Global express, the shipping route is USA to Germany, and forward to Ireland, is then processed by customs, where import duty is levied, and VAT levied on i.e. Goods + shipping + VAT + a handling fee. The goods will then be delivered by GLS Logistics, and will not be released without payment.
The USPS Global express delivery time of 3 to 5 days is typically increased to 6 to 9 days due to its routing via germany.

If your package is sent by USPS Global priority mail, listed as 7 to 10 days,
its routing from the USA is direct to Ireland to An Post Portlaoise for customs, is accessed for duty and VAT, and is delivered to you by An Post, often in less than 5 days. Customs may hold item for duty, you will be sent notification of duties to be paid.

it seems i have been getting bad luck with eBay recently,

Okay i bought another iphone from the guy http://myworld.ebay.com/captray23/&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2754

he has a good feedback and everything and he sells items for about 400dollars.

So i bought an iPhone from him about 2days before hurricane IRENE struck, i think it was he 29th.

After purchasing itm i paid immediately, i sent some emails to him but he didn't reply.

After on the 30th I realized that he was from that place, so i opened a dispute stating I want to cancel the transaction as I believe that we wont be able to complete the transaction.

At hat same time he sent me an email stating item would be shipped.

He shipped it using priority mail intentional for 13.95 and he gave me the label or tracking number.

Well its 15days now and I haven't received it.

The tracking info hasn't updated at all and the seller hasn't responded to my emails.

Another guy who bought an phone from him his also saying that he has not yet received his own as well.

Is it to early or me to be worried about it ?

you bought from abroad? again? are you serious?
just bite the bullet and pay the going rate locally, and if necessary buy something a bit cheaper than an iphone

I change my phones at the most every 3 - 4 months and I sell them for a massive profit.

If the tracking info hasn't updated in over two weeks, then something is wrong. I'd start a claim.
