Toll charges

I took a trip to Sligo yesterday morning, via the M4, N4 etc etc and had to leave the motorway just after the M4 toll. (I needed to get something from the car boot).

On rejoining the motorway I had to go through another toll, does this mean my €2.70 charge is now €5.40 just for driving up and down a slip road?

I use a tag by the way.

They normally give you a reentry ticket when you leave that motorway and re-enter. That's if you're paying in cash. Hopefully the tag takes that into account automatically.

I'll have to check my account (if I can remember how to do that).

I would have spoken to the toll booth operator, but it was unmanned when we went through.

Think you can hit a button if any problems to speak to someone at them.

There's no exit gates there (or indeed anywhere else...), the re-entry ticket has to be asked for when paying the first time around

I have no idea how its handled on toll tags, I've had to do what is covered within the M4 toll bye-laws (leave to Enfield and re-enter for the same direction within a short time period) but as it was for work I just let them pay it. Its their tag, their car...

Those booths are permanently unmanned but there's a speaker/mike back to the offices as said.

My last three times through the M4 toll have see me charged commercial rate, motorbike rate, and car rate!

    I drive a private car.

So throw an eye on the price before you throw in your money.

    Surely that is dodgy?

    Not really.

I think most Enfield commuters use the old road back. Hardly worth the toll for ~6K of road. Ergo the booth is used very little. Yes there are a few cases like the example where it should be better supported but they clearly figure its no bang for buck manning it

That's the problem with a tag, even if you know you are going to leave and get the ticket, the tag will be charged regardless.

I will check my statement and pass on what I find out.
