DART family ticket not on sale on ticket machines

    Hi

I hope this is the correct forum to ask my question: I was travelling to the Bray Sky Fest yesterday with my husband and 2 kids (one under 3). The ticket office at our station was closed so I used the automatic ticket machines. I searched for the family ticket, but couldn't find it, so I entered our destination, requested a ticket for 2 adults and a child, thinking I would be give the option at a later stage. A message appeared at the bottom of the screen "a family ticket might be the cheapest option, please return to tickets selections screen". Or something to that effect. I returned to the ticket selection, but again could not find any option for the family ticket.
I searched through all the screens, we ended up buying the tickets separately, which cost us a great deal more. I intended to ask the ticket officer in Bray, but the ticket office was closed too.
Does anyone know how to get the family tickets on the vending machines? And can I ask for a refund of the difference today?

    Thanks

In this case, I think you might get better answers in the Commuting & Transport forum. Moved accordingly.

Just to let you know, the message on the screen says "A family ticket may be the cheapest option, please go to the ticket office for more information". There is no way to buy a family ticket on the automatic machines.

You say the separate tickets cost you "a great deal more", do you know how much the difference was? The same thing happened to me recently - I saw the message, went to the ticket office, the guy working there checked it out and said the family ticket would only be cheaper if we were getting more than two darts in one day. If you were only buying return tickets for 2 adults and 1 child then the separate tickets may have been the cheaper option.

    Thanks Nibtrix

I went back to the station yesterday, the message on the screen definitively says to check tickets options but doesn't make any mention of the ticket office. Anyway, we didn't have the choice because said ticket office was closed.
The man yesterday explained that this was a promotional offer (family ticket for 10 euros, a saving of 4.8 euros for a family of 3) and thus wouldn't be available online but could be bought in advance during the week. I'm slightly annoyed that this is not advertised more clearly, so I've sent a mail to Irish Rail, asking them to clarify the terms of their offer

I'd appreciate if you posted your response from irish rail when (if!) it comes.

It would be great if you could buy the family tickets from the machine rather than having to go to the ticket office - last time we missed our train as I had to traipse into the office only to find out the separate tickets were cheaper!
