NEW rules regarding photo ID in Dundalk GPO.

I have a question regarding same.. As and from last week Dundalk GPO have started asking people collecting SW to provide photo ID or no payment will be made. I have no photoID. The last time I had no photo ID and I wanted to set up a bank account, F.A.S sent me to the local garda barracks to get a form known as an LM10 form-I also had to supply 2 passport photos to the garda, they issued me with this LM10 form to confirm I was who I said was. That was in 2005.
I went today to the same garda station to ask for the same form. The guard at desk told me I needed a guard to confirm who I was.. Most of the guards in Dundalk are new and don't know me so I told him that I would hang around to see if I could spot a guard I knew and he said right.. As luck would have it-about 10 minutes later I spotted a special branch man who knows me from my younger days..
I explained my problem to him and he agreed to confirm who I was so next thing is-the other guard at the desk turned and said the rules concerning LM10 forms had changed and I would have to go see my brief(lawyer) to get the same form.. Does anyone know the currant news regarding the issue of these LM10 forms.. I have applied for an irish garda age card today but that will take at least 2 weeks to arrive.. Any help in this matter would be most welcome..

Did you apply for the card on www.agecard.ie? I know all PO SW recipients where i live got a letter some weeks ago telling them that they would have to have photo ID, so there was a rush on applying for the age card.
All you can do is go down to your local SW office today and ask them if they can give you some kind of a temporary letter which might be acceptable in the PO to do you until your age card arrives. Bring proof that youve applied for the card.

yes that was the site.. Anyway I went back up to the barracks today and got my LM10 form.. the dopes had them there the whole time.. guess the guard that was on yesterday just didn't like the look of me..or he was just too lazy go look for the form.. post office turned a load of folk away without payment coz no photo ID.. there should be some sort of a lead in to all this lark before it's put into practice full time..

Post Offices were always able to ask for photo ID when paying social welfare, looks like Dundalk are enforcing it for everyone. When signing on at SW office you can also be asked for photo ID.

This was announced at the end of May so there has been at least 4 weeks lead in to D Day (came into effect from 18/07). All PO's should have had notices re photo ID but with all various signs and posters in PO's new one's are hard to pick out.

The new Public Services Card will be rolled out from Sept/Oct which will sort of act as a ID Card (for Public Services anyway). Why they didn't go the whole step and introduce a credit card size National Identity card for all is beyond me and from looking at the new PSC, it's a bit Michael Mouse.
