Replace BMW Car Key

I lost me car keys the other day and so far I have had no luck finding them. I bought the car with only one car key so need to get a replacement. The details on the car are:
    BMW 318 convertible
    Year 2000
    1796 cc
    3 doors

I bought the car from an individual and not a garage.

Anybody know what I have to do to get the key replaced and also any estimates on possible costs?

    Thanks!

Probably not one for the DIY Maintenance forum, but regardless - you need to bring the ownership logbook to the nearest BMW Dealership and order a key. It'll be 180 ish. You should also ask the Dealer about de-coding the keys that you lost.

Bring the car log book, plus photo ID, plus about 180 Euro to a main dealer.

Some of them require samples of two body fluids too :D.

If you've no keys at all now, it might be no harm to order a second key, for about 60 Euro you'll get one with no remote.

Thanks for the info. My log book is actually in the car so can't get it. Will that be a big problem or is there another way around it?

I trust it is to prove you are the owner but I have other documents like insurance docs, car loan details etc.... and can bring a passport if needed. Will this do?

Depends on the Dealer, but if you can bring a hell of a lot of documentation with you, I'm sure you'll find someone reasonable. I'm sure you know it already, but it's a really really bad idea to keep the log book in the car.
