I am having problems sending MMS messages from my iPhone 4 iOS 4.3.4

Having gone onto the Vodafone website I can't find the settings on my phone where Vodafone say they should be

    1. Find "Mobile Data Network"
    Press Settings.
    Press General.
    Press Network.
    Press Mobile Data Network.

Mobile Data Network does not appear under "Network" on my phone.

How can I check my settings?

The Vodafone created settings/carrier file which Apple include with iOS specifically hides this menu from view. This is Vodafones own choice so why they're telling you it should be visible is highly unusual. As a result your settings are unchangeable and thus will be set correctly.

I thought so much! Must be a problem at their end. I had this issue in 4.3.3 and still in 4.3.4

the carrier file isn't downloaded with IOS, it's installed afterwards and can be removed with a restore, ya just have to keep hitting cancel everytime ya connect to itunes

They are included with iOS now for Apple approved carriers. No way of removing them.

another user on this forum suggested going to the network settings and removing the sim card and then mobile data network shows up

    Is your phone jailbroken?

Tried it but it did not make a difference.

Yup. Started as far back as 4.1 I think.
Putting in the SIM of an Apple approved network will automatically load the appropriate carrier file and, in vodafone's case, disable access to the network data settings.

no it doesnt, i restored to 4.3.3 yesterday on an emobile iphone 4 and was asked to install the carrier file, it was that way on my other iphones aswell from 4-4.2

we may have our wires crossed, while their is old carrier files installed with IOS, if you don't agree to update them in itunes it doesn't use the carriler file

emobile have the mobile data settings blocked aswell but because i din't agree to the update i can now view and change them again

As Meteor/EMobile have only recently started carrying the iPhone officially, their carrier files are not included in iOS yet.
I would expect this to change with iOS 5.

was the exact same way with 02, you had to accept the update

Did you try the Reset Network Settings option? This worked for me once when MMS wasn't working. Deleted all my Wi-Fi settings though.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Oh, and by the way, if you have a phone with iOS 4.3.x preloaded then you have the new carrier file and there's no way to view the settings.

Get Vodafone to check it out for you - they sometimes need to re-provision you on the network for it to work.

The carrier file will have done all the configuration needed on your handset.

Talk to Vodafone section [here] :)

o2 had to do that when i was with them, reset the network settings after that and they worked perfect

guil, I'm sorry but what you are saying is only correct when a new carrier launches the iPhone on their network. The network will submit the carrier file to Apple a few weeks in advance of their official launch so from that point 2 things happen:
    1) Users with the networks sim cards in an iPhone already are prompted in iTunes and more recently on-device to install the carrier file. Depending on the network providers option this may deny access to the mobile data menu and/or disable tethering.
    2) In all new iOS images compiled after the above has happened the networks carrier file will be included and is thus unremovable.

The ONLY way (excluding jail breaking) to get your phone back to a state where the carrier file is not installed is to install a version of iOS which was out before your network started offering the iPhone. With emobile/meteor this is quite recent, 4.3.3, however with Vodafone it will be back in the version 3.1 days. And as we know, restoring to an older iOS is difficult due to the baseband versions.

Removing the SIM/installing a different sim may make the menu visible but the instant you re-insert the Vodafone SIM the pre-set settings will be loaded at the same time, anything you entered in the menu disregarded, and the menu will be hidden.

To the OP, the problem is obviously with Vodafone, give them grief. ;)

Funny you posted this last night actually, I've been having trouble with MMS again today. Reset my network settings and my phone rebooted with "it Safe Mode" on the top bar.

After two phone calls to Vodafone, and a couple of resets and reboots I am no further on

I did the network reset etc. but I still can't send an MMS.

    @atlantean

There is a way to enable the menu. But you have to be jailbroken. If you're willing to jailbreak I'll be happy to help you out.

Honestly I would sell my iPhone if it wasn't jailbroken, I don't know why anyone would be deciding against it!
