Drying hair naturally

Usually wash and blowdry my hair every two or three days, and it's always soft and shiny, and generally healthy looking. However, I'm aware of the damage that constant blowdrying can do to the hair so I'm trying to let it dry naturally a couple of times a week.

It's just making my hair look worse! It looks dry and fuzzy and dull and just a mess in general. I'm afraid to put a product in it because I don't know what to try. I don't want something too heavy that will make my hair limp and greasy. If I can't crack this natural drying soon I'm just going to go back to blowdrying!

    Anyone got any suggestions?

You could try a leave in conditioner maybe?

Or tie it up whilst it's damp and leave it dry in a ponytail or clipped back - helps flatten the cuticle and cuts down on the fluff big-time. I only blowdry my hair about once a month, otherwise it's a damp pony or clip for me. Usually comes out nice and sleek.

I agree with the clipping back! I find when I throw my wet hair up in a big clip, it dries really smoothly somehow, entirely lacking frizz and goes very soft too.

I do condition my hair but I'm not sure I want to leave one in. I worry it'll make my hair limp. Clipping back it is!

a few months ago i decided i was going to give up blow drying /straightening hair, except for the odd special occasion as the condition of my hair had gotten really dry and frizzy.
Firstly each time i wash my hair i apply a deep conditioning masque. I have been using either l'oreal elvive one or John Frieda miraculous recovery. i try to leave in for at least 5 mins.
After towel drying i apply a little bit of Boots curl creme. Its a pink tub really cheap think only around 1.99 and a little bit of serum, either John Frieda or Aussie serum. I comb these product through and set my parting and lightly scrunch my hair and leave to air dry.
when hair is dry then i apply another tiny bit of serum to the ends and im good to go. The improvement in the condition of my hair in the last few months has been amazing and have gotten loads of compliments on it. I always used to wear my hair straight but i have embraced the natural kink in it. I now straighten it maybe about once a month for a change and it straightens so much easier.
Stick with it and try and few different products and see what works for you. Its definitely worth it

I agree with other posters here, when I let my hair dry naturally (all the time) I clip it back with a claw clip and it isn't frizzy at all.

It's soft, shiny and frizz free.

I use leave in products and they NEVER leave my hair greasy or limp.

It also depends on how much of the product you use OP. I use very, very little, only a pea sized amount, if even that.

I use these (not both at once lol)

I use only two sprays of that John Freida spray as I don't need anymore to be honest.

I rarely blow dry my hair (I only blow dry it when I really need to) and when I do blow dry it, I use this

I have thick curly hair so my hair is very dry and frizzy, and I have to let it dry naturally most of the time

Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave-in conditioner is a godsend. Just stick it in regardless of if you're styling or letting it dry naturally. I find it doesn't look greasy and has been recommended by almost every magazine out there.

If you do have thick dry hair, try moroccan oil as well. I find it ok, it's good but at 20 euro a bottle, it's not a bargain. My mom has thin hair and she uses it also, she does say it makes her hair softer

If you are worried about limp hair, stick a few duck-bill clips in the roots to lift it as it dries

I have curly hair and can only get away with blow-drying wiht a diffuser if I want it to look good. If I let it dry naturally it ends up limp and flat to my head and both looks and feels greasy! I've never understood why as I was always told that air-drying is better than blow-drying, but it just doesn't work for me!

The ends of my hair are a little bit damaged, the hairdresser pointed out to me on my last visit. I bought a heat protection serum to use when I blowdry which does make a difference (Kerastase in Peter Marks), but drying it naturally at least half the time seems to work even better!

The only problem is my hair is quite fine, so without proper styling it can just sit a bit flat and look boring. Tying it up in a bun using a claw grip helps emphasise the natural wave, but it's nothing compared to mousse....can you use mousse without blowdrying? Or will it just look all sticky and dirty?

I have fine hair so if I leave it dry naturally it just sticks to my head at the roots and frizzes everywhere else. Even tying it up doesn't make a difference. I love my hairdryer!

I haven't used a hair dryer in two months. My favourite product is Salt Spray, just spritz on damp hair and leave to dry. I get nice, non-frizzy curls, or bigger curls if I tie it up in a bun to dry. I use the Umberto Giananni brand from Boots.

When I shower I leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing, seems to be working well!

I find Tresemme smoothing serum great, only a small bit at the ends after towel drying. I have thick curly hair and can't blow dry it at all, I end up looking like a mad woman unless I either blow dry it straight or not at all! There is also a Kerastase product (that I can't remember the name of) which is fantastic, it's in a small orange pump bottle and it's some sort of oil/serum. It doesn't weigh your hair down and lasts for ages as you only need two or three drops of the stuff after you towel dry.
