A Few Questions (Re:Saorview/Freeview)

First, sorry if there's a thread on this, I searched but couldn't find any.

OK, I'm looking for a box that will receive both Saorview channals and UK channels, whether that be Saorview box or Freesat/Saorview combi. (I'm not 100% sure on all this)

So, can a Saorview box pick up Freeview channles?
(I can receive Freeview from where I am, I know that)

If I get a Combi box can I use the Sky dish as a recevier even if I am using Sky as well?

Also, I had a Freeview box connected a few months ago for a while just to see if I could recieve it, which I could, but BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 (as well as their digital channels) where not there. Why is this?

    Your help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes, but only the standard definition (SD) channels (HD currently not broadcast in NI).

Yes, provided you have a spare LNB connection.

Digital programmes are broadcast as multiplexes (mux for short); 1 former analogue channel can carry a number of digital services.
Your reception of the Freeview PSB muxes must be too weak.

Do you know which transmitter you receive from?
The northern Irish transmitters will increase power next year after analogue tv is switched off.

Well I currently receive Saorview from Hollywell Hill as far as I know.

    What is LNB?

    Thanks for the help

LNB; Low Noise Block-downconverter, it's the device on the dish arm where the signal is focused & sent to the receiver, basically what the cable(s) are connected to.
If you have Sky+ & only one receiver then you should have spare outputs on your LNB.

Do you have an outdoor aerial for terrestrial tv? What about analogue UK channels, can you list their UHF channel nos. (in the range 21-68).

thats a twin lnb but best to get a quad if you want to watch different stations in more than 2 rooms.

I have Sky+ in one room and SkyHD in another.

I am looking to replace the SkyHD box with a Freeview/Saorview box.

I have an outdoor terrestrial aerial which receives Irish and UK channels fine.
I tried that aerial with PlayTV on PS3 and it could pick up all the Irish channels and most of the UK Freeview channels except BBCs, C4s and C5s. Do you know why this might be?

How do I get their UHF numbers?

Once again, sorry for all the questions, but thanks a mill for the help.

Thanks for all the help folks, I think I'm just going to try FreeSat as the FreeView reception isn't great.

What part of the country are you in?

Most of ROI will need satellite for UK channels, most of NI will not currently have reception of Saorview channels.

    I'm in Letterkenny.
I can only get Mux D at the minute so I'm just going to go for FreeSat and will get a combi box.

You're probably getting freeview from Limavady.

The Freeview signal from this transmitter should improve dramatically after DSO next year when it increases power.

As has been mentioned elsewhere on these forums, a Freeview HD box will receive both Freeview , Freeview HD (when it becomes available in NI) and Saorview.

In the meantime, if you want UK TV now, a Freesat box (or PVR) is the only way to go.

I have a LNB device with 8 outputs on my dish. 5 outputs are currently in use feeding the 2 sky+ box and a pc with a hybrid tv card.
