Trying to find a good half marathon programme....

    Hi guys,

A bit of background really, I'm 22. Ran Leinster Schools' cross country when I was 16/17, was always a bit of an occasional jogger.

Last January I ended up joining a 'marathon club' it was basically a guy trying to get people into running in college. They started in November, and by January had pretty much completed a C25K programme, so I joined where the 'marathon training' started.

The point of it was really just to get us around the course, in 5 hours or so. Not a great time I know, but it was all about boosting confidence.

I ran the Limerick Marathon in 5hours30. Rotten I know. I'd been aiming for about 4hours30, but got a vomiting bug the day before, disaster. But it was for charity, so I made myself finish it kind of thing.

Now, I've decided I never want to do another marathon, but I fancy the Dublin Half in 8 weeks. I've been running on and off since, nothing huge, maybe 4-6 miles twice a week.

Does anyone have any ideas what kind of schedule I should follow? All the novice ones seem to presume you've never ran over 6miles before, but I think the other ones might be a bit too advanced?

    I guess I'd be AIMING for 2hours30?

Yup, jump right in if you feel ready to tackle the programme at any particular point.

Is there any reason in particular why you choose the Dublin half? There are a lot of half marathons around at the moment, Clonakilty in December, for example, would give you plenty of time to build towards a 12 week programme. There is also the Galway Bay Half Marathon on the 1st of October.

If you have run a marathon already and have some experience of tunning, then you are quite capable of adapting a schedule to your own suitability. 13 miles isnt really that challenging in your case.

Obviously, but on 4-6 miles twice a week, it won't be that easy either...
