Make & model of recorder? What connections have you tried so far?

This RTÉNL booklet might be of assistance - Connecting a Television Set to SAORVIEW

HI, thanks for the replies. It's a Targa DRH-5700x. I emailed Targa. This was the reply; ''The device internal tuner card only works for analog signals.
If your provider supplied a seperate receiver for the digital channel, you can connect the seperate receiver to the SCART socket on this device.'' We bought a Saorview box and tried various combinations of scart and hdmi using an aerial splitter. Anyway, we gave up on the box and are using the Targa to record in analogue.

Re-reading the manual to see if we did something wrong.

    . . . using an aerial splitter.

Use the receiver loopthroughs (aerial in & out sockets) to 'daisy chain' the aerial feed, rather than splitting it.

We recently bought a Saorview box and could pick up all stations in the morning and afternoon. By early evening the signal is gone.
The aerial is working fine . We pick up RTE 1,2, TV3 ( no TG4).
The box picks up all BBC and ITV digital channels perfectly.
    Any ideas?

We also have a Freesat dish and use a DVD recorder.
Will is be possible to record Saorview channels whilst watching Freesat via another EXT?

    Where are you located?

Have you looked at the Saorview site which among other information includes a coverage map.

What Saorview box do you have?

If you receive analogue TV3 you should also receive analogue TG4.

How many aerials do you have? Two aerials are required for the Saorview and UK digital overspill channels.

    We have a TRIAX TR112.

We've live in Wicklow which is close to the Greystones transmitter.
As I say they reception is fine until mid afternoon and then there is no signal at all.
As for the aerial, we have never been able to pick up TG4 at all and TV3 is snowy at the best of times.
We only have one aerial . Were never told we might need 2.

Analogue TG4 (UHF Ch 63V) together with RTÉ 1 (Ch 53V) & 2 (Ch 57V) are all carried from Greystones, with the correct Group C/D aerial you should receive them without any problem together with Saorview DTT on UHF Ch 52V. Analogue TV3 isn't available from that transmitter.

Can you identify the UHF channel numbers of the Irish channels you currently receive?
Can you identify the UHF channel numbers of the UK digital channels you currently receive?

Your single aerial may be out of group and pointing in the wrong direction for the Greystones transmitter.

tried to identify the UHF channels you mention below but have not found them even buyinstalling the channels again.

Ok, we'll do that and I found a reference to a decoder on/off switch on p22 of the manual, which we have now turned on, so it's just to reconnect the box and see what happens. Will post the results and thanks to everyone for the help and advice. It's greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lads

Another query for youz....We have a Panasonic telly and a "TV STAR" box. The reception used to be great but since we got new neighbours it is so variable! Honestly we have 2 places we can sit at to watch the telly that we get reception. If I stand at the cooker we get no picture, if I stand at the sink it dips in and out!! Any tips??? We live in an apartment in the Dundalk area so we can't control our aerial but get all the irish channels, no english ones!

Are you using an indoor aerial, if so this is what RTÉNL say about their use
Can I Use An Indoor Portable Aerial, Rabbits Ears?

RTÉNL does not recommend the use of indoor portable aerials. They are too susceptible to localised physical and electrical interference. Terrestrial transmission of television, analogue and digital, is designed and built around rooftop reception.

It will be possible for over 50% of the population to receive SAORVIEW with an indoor portable aerial. However on a house to house basis there are many factors than impact on the effectiveness of a portable aerial. For example the orientation of your house, the location of the television in the house, the construction materials, the insulation materials, the proximity to neighbouring houses, walls and obstructions will all impact reception.

An outdoor aerial, positioned as high as possible, pointing towards the appropriate transmission site, with no local obstructions is recommended and will give the best results.

No no there's a communal aerial in the roof which we connect to in the wall of our living room!!

If things are behaving the way you describe, you probably aren't getting any signal from the actual aerial system & the cable you have connected to the wall is functioning as an indoor aerial.

So get onto your landlord! If you are the owner get the number of the management agent and get them to sort it out....

You may find that they havent even got a terrestrial system wired to each apartment.

Some satellite company may have a maintenance contract with the complex.
