    Hi,

Does anyone know if you can fit 2 heater plugs on a 4 cylinder MF tractor to help start on cold morning. Would it work and is it possible.

It can be done but your problem is more than likely poor compression which is more than likely very worn valves. Start by checking your tappet clearance , re-adjusting this might be a quick fix.

I know of an old lad that used to take out the hot ashes and coals from his range on a cold morning, and leave them in a tin bucket under the engine block of his '35 for half an hour.
Tractor would always start first turn!

On a more practical note, wasn't this tractor always difficult to start - many owners used to get the heads modified (something to do with adjusting the inlet porting )to help with cold starts.

You shouldnt need to do this, there must be something else amiss.Anyway, where would you put it?

Thats why I asked before, the only way I can think of is to drill another hole in the manifold but that gets messy.TBH I would not do it at all.Make sure your present one is working and get other parts to work better too.
