Opel Astra 2008 - Boot leak

I own a 2008 Opel Astra Sporthatch, which After it rains heavily, water leaks into the boot. The water is accumulating in the bottom left side of boot (in the region of the boot lip - there is a small channel that sits in the bumper where the water accumulates and then spills over into floorpan and spare wheel area). it is not small leak, I had to take everything out of boot to dry as floor mat becomes saturated after rain. does anyone know what might be causing this? Have yet to bring it to an Opel dealership, for fear of cost. 2 mechanics have looked so far and couldnt find the route of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You probably have some suspicions about where its coming from - lights, boot seal, etc. Why not throw a shot of talcum powder around those areas (take out the carpet, etc) and throw a hose pipe on it for a few minutes, see if you can trace it?

Hey Andy, was just wondering did you ever get to the bottom of that leak? I've a 07 opel astra convertable with the same problem. After heavy rain yesterday I could actually hear a lot of water sloshing around somewhere on the passanger side every time I braked. boot mat is saturated but doesnt seem to be much water in the spare wheel area. Should I chance my regular mechanic or go to an opel dealer?
