    Hi.
I currently have a black 2004 vw passat 1.9 tdi 130bhp 5 speed comfortline since last November.
its been a joy to run getting up 60mpg on long journeys driving it very easy and iv had no problems since worth talking about either!

But since the end of may iv been toying with the idea of buying a 2006 vw passat 140bhp SPORT 6 speed. im wondering first of all

will it be worth the extra 2500 i will be spending as im planning of getting a 06 for 7000 euro and selling my own for 4500?

iv heard alot of horror stories about these including problems with the button handbrake!! , injectors going , flywheels , clutch's , etc. are these lickly to happen as some people say they are unreliable??

and will they be lighter on diesel?

and what other benefits will they have from the car i have now?

or am i mad for thinking this way as my own car is perfect and it wont be that much of a step up from my own?

    I have a 06 2.0 TDI 140 with the DSG box that I traded in my 02 1.9 TDI 130 Passat for.

It does about 1050km to a full (70L) tank so roughly €95 to fill at current prices

It's a lot bigger and more comfortable inside - cruise control is great and the boot is huge

It handles better than the last model

    BUT...

Yes the injectors in the early ones (05-08) are known to fail and fail expensively - there's a thread here on this on the first/second page and on lots of other VW forums

Yes the electronic handbrake is known to fail (though mine hasn't given any hassle)

The Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) did go though.. a grand to fix (and that was only because I took it up north to get done)

In short they have many good points and despite the problems, I'm still happy with mine but they're certainly not as bulletproof as VW would like you to believe.

I honestly think you would be mad. Are you going to notice that extra 10BHP? Power difference would be very minute. If I was changing at all I would be at least aiming for a 170BHP if you want to see a difference in performance. Better off keeping what you have than going for the 06 model that you have mentioned. Your model car was more reliable than those that came after it.

If you want a bit more power get a good remap on your own car. Bad idea buying a Passat unless its late 08 or newer.

I echo what was said above.

One slightly off topic question - how do you manage 60mpg - I've a 05 highline estate and it has never broken 50mpg.

Getting an 06 3.0 touareg soon so expect me to come back on here crying about sub 30mpg! :-D

O/T a small bit but the V6 engine give a bit of bother too. I have heard of a few engine failures at low miles..

OP, do yourself a favour and keep what you have. If your that bored of it either get it remapped or look at changing to something other than another Passat.
