Expensive price?

Hi I went to the dentist in the city centre today and I am not sure if the price quoted is reasonable? More importantly I don't know if I got the best feeling and if I am going to spend that much money I think I would rather go somewhere which would do a really good job.

    I was quoted as following:
    posterior composite filling (4-8) E85.00
posterior composite filling (4-8) E70.00 (why the difference in price)

    night guard splint E160
    scale and polish E50

I don't know if the prices are that unreasonable but I think I was just shocked by the total price. I also need to get a lower wisdom tooth removed which I would like to get removed by iv sedation. It has started to come up crooked so I think it is impacted. Depending on price I also need to get 2 veneers replaced but the dentist didn't recommend it as I have been grinding my teeth pretty bad.

On a separate note could any recommend a good night guard? I got one from my orthodontist but it only lasted a year but I am a very hard grinder.

If anyone knows somewhere either in Dublin or up the north which would do these things well and for a fair price could you please let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

    Katie

The look fine, a little on the cheapo side actually.

Thats a different matter, you need a dentist you can trust and go to regularly over the years. Dentists who tend to move on, or dentist very far away are not a good idea. You can get excellent dentistry in dublin, you can get cheap dentistry in dublin there is no reason to travel up north anymore.

    night guard splint E160

This will be a soft, thin or hard soft laminate type thats really not very good, spend a bit more and get a hard night-guard. I have posted before on the difference between the types search around the forum.

Get a second opinion and make sure all the work is necessary. Low unit prices are often made up with volume. You may need all that work, if so then thats just the way it is.
I also need to get a lower wisdom tooth removed which I would like to get removed by iv sedation. It has started to come up crooked so I think it is impacted.

Go to an oral surgeon to have this removed. I can PM you a name if you would like.
Depending on price I also need to get 2 veneers replaced but the dentist didn't recommend it as I have been grinding my teeth pretty bad.

Fillings first and extractions, after that look at veneers and advanced treatments. Are the veneers broken due to grinding? If so maybe crowns would be a better option.

Get a hard all acrylic splint, they cost more but last a lot longer and are a lot more comfortable. Soft splints actually increase your grinding. Also orthodontists tend to make simple suckdown Essix type retainers, these are not grinding appliances.

Thanks fitzgeme, if you wouldn't mind sending me the name of the oral surgeon, I would really appreciate it. I have put it off for ages because I thought I would need a GA but I was reading through some of the forums and how most are done with iv sedation and it has made me feel a lot more comfortable.

I think the price just kind of surprised me as I wasn't expecting the cavities (I got it because the impacted wisdom tooth is stopping another tooth from coming up and since its at an angle its hard to brush.)

Would you be able to recommend somewhere that does the harder mouth guards and hopefully I will be able to afford it. I think I need this pretty urgent as my last one broke and I am using a cheap one from boots just to get me by.

Thanks so much for your help,

    Katie
