    Hi lads,

sorry if this is in the wrong spot.. I couldnt decide whether this was more Instruments or Music Production but I'd appreciate any advice..

I have Line 6 Spider IV 75W and Boss GT8, which both have amp emulation and effects... I just cant get a good sound out of the GT8 heavy sounds no matter what way I hook it up (even if I by pass the emulation on the amp)..

I was thinking of just dumping the GT8 and getting an FBV pedal and using the amp + effects for gigging for the easy life.. Just wondering if anybody else has both devices and what they have managed?

    thanks in advance..

If I was you I would keep the GT8, it can be used with any amp, unlike the line 6 footswitch. If you upgrade you amp in the future, you can use your GT8 with the new one, where as of you get the FBV, that can only be used with spider amps. Im not gone on spider amps anyway, never liked the tone of them!

Gotta say I've yet to hear a nice tone from a Line 6 Spider. The only amp I flat out refuse to record, tried in the past and they're just unworkable. Especially for heavy rock/metal tones or anything with distortion for that matter.

Used to have a gt-8 too and they're alright as long as you keep the effects down to a minimum and not too extreme sounding and play with the ins/out levels as there's several ways to adjust the level on it. Also the preamps on it aren't great so I wouldn't base the whole tone off it. They're pretty extensive and hard to ue so I'd hold on t it and go through the maunal learning how to get the most from it.

if I were you I'd hold onto the GT-8 and get rid of the amp. Loads of really nice sound, low priced tube gear around at the minute that would absolutely blow the Line 6 out of the water

    Hi lads.. appreciate your opinions..

Thing is that the sounds from the amp alone are actually brilliant.. It's the latest Spider IV and the word on the street is that they have "got it right" this time.. Amp has got great reviews all round.. Some of the clean sounds are excellent and the heavy sounds are good as well..

But the GT8 gives me synth, acoustic emulation, and a lot more... For the moment I've just put the GT8 to one side, and got the pedal for the amp and working away with that.. Still find it amazing that they dont have a bypass mode for using such a pedal, especially given that a lot of line 6 clients would also have XT Live, POD, X3 etc...
