Im flying to Madrid on EI594 in September and Im wondering about trying to get a pic of the flightdeck when airbourne.

I read that Virgin allow visits to the flight deck on flights if requested and can give written permission in advance.

Do EI do the same and if so who would I write to .

Im been on the flightdeck many times whilst in the air but this was many moons ago and Ive have never taken pics on the flightdeck while airbourne so Id like to change that

    Suggestions ???

I would say not a chance.

Access pre-and post flight yes by all means, but that door stays locked shut from before take off till the aircraft is on stand at the destination.

Well on my last two Flights the door was opened twice! Both times was by the crew to give the pilots a drink or what ever! And i know this isint unreasounable ! Of course pilots have to eat and go to the toilet! But the way it was done surprised me! The Cabin manager just went in , seatbelt sign didnt go on as is policy at some airlines and a trolly was not parked in front of the door. The was another crew member in the front galley but she wasnt looking into the cabin she was doing somthing and barly noticed! It surprised me a bit but id say if you asked to get into the flight deck inflight you would be treated very suspiciously by the crew!

That does happen but usually the curtain in front of the galley is closed so that passengers are not aware that this is happening. Similarly the flight crew need to take toilet breaks.

However what I meant was that from a passenger perspective access to the flight deck whilst in the air is a no-no.

your best bet is to ask a flight attendant to go in with your camera and take a picture but other than that i doubt it's going to happen

Even if you do get in you prob wont get a picture as this would be stretching it,after landing maybe.

virgin????? i think not, what about the pilot that got sacked for letting a premiership footballer in to see the cockpit!!!!

Well there was a galley curtain but it wasent pulled across! I was in the over wing exit row of an A320 and i could see into the flight deck when the door was opened . Now i know its not a big deal because a hijacker is not goin to plan his/her attack on "when the pilot needs a piss" or "when the pilot wants a coffee" etc if they want to get in the will have an extensive plan on how to do so! But i just thought it was a little bit careless! Like i could have walked straight up to the door ant the other attendant wouldnt have noticed.
On another flight with only one crew member in the cabin (ATR42) the crew member spent about 7-8 mins chatting to the pilot inflight on the flight deck with the door wide open ! I was shocked! The whole plane were straining their necks to see up and into the F/D and there she was chatting away to the pilots! On the same flight she didnt close the door correctly and it swung open on touch down! Again just careless ! On the up side in sure that attendant whould be more then happy to take a photo for you in the F/D inflight!

I was on an aircraft recently and i noticed the CC had put a piece of tape over the camera in the fwd galley to stop the flight crew gawping at them!! The other two cameras were not covered!!

@kol, if any of our CCs covered a camera, that'd be her last action on board. On the 320, a door code is required to open the flight deck door or the pilots open the door electrically or manually and only after the cabin crew announce themselves on the PA. Right now, in EI, the flight deck is off limits in flight. Ask as you get off.
