I tried to find what I thought was a sticky on importing from the UK to ask this but couldnt find it. If it exists I dont mind this being moved there.

I have just imported a vehicle VRT-free thanks to an exemption due to a transfer of residence from the UK. 100% legit I will add.
The NCT centre's inspection involved plenty of paperwork and I was in possession of my logbook at all times. However the final pickup of documents I had to leave to my father as I was away. Now I have no logbook. Neither an Irish or UK one.
I have just paid my 1st Irish motor tax payment. Still no logbook.

What exactly happened? Have I missed a step? Did my father give in the logbook correctly and now I await an Irish replacement?

I was under the impression I would get an Irish one and that I would have to send my uk one back to the UK due to permanent export.

Anyone else know the order of events here? My insurance company needs a company of my logbook and I have none...!

First log books are only issued after tax is issued, so you'll receive it in the post from Shannon in the next couple of weeks.

    Worry not.

I imported a car recently and received my Log book after i paid the first instalment of tax this week.
As far as I remember, the NCT crowd keep the V5C original and sort that out, I had to take a copy and leave original with them

    Ah nice.
You've both answered my question. So now there is no need to inform the UK authorities. Excellent. One less admin task for me!

That's correct, the V5C will be returned to the DVLA in Swansea, who will record the car as having been exported from the UK.
