L Plate Tattoo on Windscreen

    Hello,

I took off my L plates yesterday but it left the red L tattooed onto the rear window and a small bit on the front window as well.

It won't peel off and I tried using cardboard to scrape it off. I also tried heating it with a hair-dryer to soften it up and then peel it but it seems to be more like paint. I also tried white-spirits but that wasn't much use either.

I've seen people before driving around who obviously had the same problem but does anyone know how to get rid of the mark?

    Thank you.

Try normal household polish. Spray it on, leave it sit there for 15 minutes, and hopefully it will soften it up a bit.
Then remember to clean your windows after!

Nail polish remover. It contains acetone, which you might use to remove stickers, gloss paint splatter, from new windows etc.

I'd get cotton balls and nail polish remover and rub around it. Should break the bond between L plate and window.

Edit: Keep doors and windows open while you work unless you want to see shapes and come out of the car singing
Edit2: Didn't think about the heating element. Might want to be careful here? Anyone?

Thanks for all of your tips! I sprayed polish on it and then used some more white spirits along with the edge of my finger nail/kitchen towel to take it off. Unfortunately, I was all out of nail polish remover! :D But it's all gone now so thanks to everyone!

I had this problem on a car I restored a few months ago. It was a 1995 Renault 5 and the dealer's sticker was still on the back window.

I peeled off as much of it as I could using a scalpel. Then I sprayed a bit of Holts tar remover onto a sponge and dapped it on the sticky residue. Then left it for 5 minutes and it just rubbed off.

I then cleaned the whole window with glass cleaner.

The reason I used the sponge was so the tar remover didn't spray everywhere ;)

Dunk the car underwater, shake hard, repeat*
