Is there any way to tax a car online if you have no pin?

It's a pain in the rear to go to the office

No pin because its an import, lost PIN or change of ownership?

As far as I know if you ring them they will issue you a pin to renew it online

I think the first time after a change of ownership you have to go in, thereafter you can renew online.

Can't understand why it can't be just done online

I emailed them at motortax@transport.ie and they issued me with a PIN within minutes.

This can be done once it appears as changed ownership here: https://www.motortax.ie/PSE/start.do;jsessionid=0aa0114730d83d243a04ce16490f86bd963881abb305.e38PaNaSbh0RaO0Mb310?page=welcome

That doesn't work if it is a change of ownership.......I tried

Ah sorry, mine was an import.
Did you try their Lo-Call number?

Nah I just had to go to the office.

I though the office hours were short and I wouldn't make it as they are at home in Tipp.

In Nenagh they are open strange hours, at awkward times and only a couple of days a week or at least they used to be.

I've been taxing cars online but just bought this one

That is not surprising, am pretty sure those office makes their hours up based on how they feel on any given morning

To defend my sis-in-law who used to work in tax office, they work full ofiice hours, the hours you quote are open-to -the-public hours.

And from the stories she told us,that was quite long enough dealing with the public:o

Well with the hours kept to a minimum and awkward times I imagine face to face contact with their customers was kept to a minimum.

Sorry I have nothing good to say about the motor tax office so I' leaving it at that.

The Wicklow office was very pleasant though I'll admit this morning with a first...........nice, friendly and efficient staff and it was open

John, when I first taxed my new car, I rang them in Nenagh. They said that since it was my first time that I had to send the form.

They only open from 10 - 3 and phone lines are only open from 10:30 - 12:00 or something stupid like that.
