Finding a specialist that deals with certain conditions

    Good morning all,

Is there any sort of medical register or anything that associates experts to certain conditions etc.? The reason I ask is that I sustained a rare soft tissue injury to my hip and wanted to consult a specialist who has dealt with them before in order to hopefully achieve a good outcome.

Its essentially an internal degloving injury....

Thanks all.... look forward to updates

That sounds very painful OP. Sounds like you will need to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon. There is an Irish Medical Directory which lists all the GPs/specialists in the country, their year of graduation, where they are based and any special interests they may have. Most GP practices would have a copy of this directory. Your GP may have dealt with somebody before with a similar condition to yours and shall be able to recommend a consultant for assesment and treatment as deemed apprioriate. You will have to attend him/her anyway to write you a referral letter to arrange an appointment for same.

Have a look at the IHCA website. They have a search function for specialists in the various specialities around the country. www.ihca.ie

GP may be able to help in first instance and also have Medical directory of who to refer to for each specialist area

    Cheers all for the feedback....

After 3rd opinion I managed to find a specialist who was in a position to do something, ended up being surgical but I expected as much. Don't want to go into details at this point in time for various reasons. If you suffer from such an injury and are at an impass shout on PM.

    Known as:
    morel-lavallee lesion
    morel lavallee lesion
    morel lavallee syndrome
    internal degloving

After tonnes of research there isn't a defined medical consensus on best course of action from a treatment perspective, various different papers have been done on different approachs but the main problem appears to be the rarity of such an injury.

Hope this helps someone at some point....

    thx all
