Hydraulic chest Valve(Hedge Cutter)

    Hi,

I have problems with a Hedgecutter two way ram, The ram activating the tilt on the head of the Hedgecutter is constantly dropping, i can prop it back into place however with the controller, how ever she does not hold.

I suspect its a problem in the chest valve, because it started to happen very fast.
Its a twose hedgecutter, The chest controller is outside the cab and is activated by long controller arms that go into the cab.

I had problems before with the chest valve the Nylon plunger inside the chest valve got pressed intto the cup in the chest valve and the hedge cutter main arm would not go up or down.

Does anyone know how these chest valves works, Its hard to picture the principle in how it works, From what i can see there is a plunger each side of a controller and there is pins pushed into them that go into the chest valve. It seems that both sides open and the oil is pressurised into the the ram in one end, and when you put the controller arm into neutral. the two plungers go back to there resting place.

Does anyone know where i can get a diagram to understand its operation. or give me advice on what the problem is.

If the ram is dropping its more likely to be the piston seals. The weight of the arm would not be able to push oil back through the valve chest against pump pressure.

as he said piston seals,it sounds like urs is cable controlled ud want make sure the cable is returning the valve to centre other wise oil will leak back to tank

most likly an adjustment fault with the cable control, wear and tear can introduce slop or ovepull-have you tried adjusting the cable pull?If it's not cable controlled, theres usually an adjustment screw built into the control arm-try small turns in either direction till the ram holds-if it started to drop suddenly it's not likly to be the ram seals, but it could equally be wear inside the valve chest seals-twose probably do a re-con kit of the nylon heads and packers.
