im a man in my late 20s who still lives at home and single,i havent worked in years, not by choice,i just seem to be unemployable, any job i applied for,the employer would be only interested in person with more experience, which makes me more frustrated because i don't seem to get a chance, which leaves me sitting on welfare when i actually want to work,i recent learned i could qualify for back to education allowance for college which i never went to when i left school, but that offer seems gone now with the arrival of college fees.

i have suffered from depression for years, being on and off medication, and recently turned down counselling because i think i would being selfish to sit there and not give answers to my own problems,i think i just suffer from natural depression.

i have no friends,i often sit in weekends because im a shy person, the stigma of being unemployed and drinking whilst on dole while old classmates have a job and girlfriend would make me feel ashamed for myself.

i even dread my birthday soon because usually its quiet affair.

*I always seem to be positive on the outside, but on inside,i feel dead,i never tell anyone how i feel because i don't want to them to worry about me,i often wanted to end it all and not tell anyone so the guilt would not haunt them.

im a shy person, which makes me think, all these problems were brought upon by myself,i think i need to change, but i really wish i could, but i cant seem to.

i had relationships with girls on and off, usually it ended with myself being dumped or ending the relationship because i always gave but person never seemed that interested.

all i ask, should i give up,is there any actual hope for me in life?.

You need to get counselling because depression will always skew your perception. Also, consult with your doctor until you have the right medication. Getting your life back to where you want it to be will be a step-by-step process, and that has to be the starting point. Get fresh air and exercise.

There are a few ways back into education to explore - don't despair yet. Don't worry about having a girlfriend until you're feeling happier in yourself. Let your friends know you're having problems so they can give you a boost when you need it.

Don't despair. Everyone has a purpose, it just takes some determination to find sometimes.

You should still look into back to education allowance.

You could afford the college fees by getting a part-time job after you start college. Hopefully your parents have a few euro stashed away to sub you in the meantime.

Regarding work, there really is no excuse for "not having a job in years". Perhaps you should look into the WPP to gain experience?

With regards to going to college, I would seriously look into it.

I think you might be mistaken with regards payment of fees, always thought that back to education covered the payment of fees.

Taken from citizens information (student contribution):
Most colleges charge an annual student contribution, formerly called the student services charge. It is also known as a registration fee and it covers student services and examinations. The amount of the contribution varies from one institution to another. The maximum rate of the student contribution for the year 2011/2012 is €2,000.

If you are getting Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) you may qualify for exemption from the student contribution.

My son, get off your arse quick and see can you still apply for a college course this september, as Im almost sure BTEA covers the lot RE:fees. The craic will be great and youll make loads of new friends, its the answer to your problems.

EDIT: I think you might be too late for this year as when I went to cao.ie it only allows new applications for Vacant Courses (only a handful); can anyone else confirm this?
