What finish for a Les Paul Junior?

    Hey guys,

I recently bought a Les Paul Junior kit from BYOGuitar.com

It's a great kit and the guitar is awesome, I hope to put the finish on it early next week but want some ideas of what to do!

I'm kinda swaying towards a solid white satin finish at the moment.

Please don't say sunbursts or nitro finishes, I'm not bothered to paint a sunburst as it needs nitro to be done proper, and nitro is hard to get and has to be imported from the UK by ground mail! (And it's expensive!!!)

Anyway, lemmie' know what you think I should do!

If you are looking at solid colours, I think either white or black would look good on it, but think a gloss finish would look better than satin, IMHO. If you have a look at pictures of the Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s' tribute guitars you will get good examples satin fininshes(although these are nitro rather than acrylic.

I've always really liked the yellow les paul juniors.

B and Q do stained danish oils, Mahogany or cherry would be the ticket for me. They are as simple as can be to apply too

Thanks to all you guys, here's a quick snap of it finished, waiting for the Gibson headstock decal to arrive and then will get some proper shots!

    Beautiful!

I'm curious: do you need to spray (nitro/ poly etc.) over a stain finish?

Do you need the gibson logo.... you've gone to the effort of putting something that nice together... why not make your own logo for it?

in the end, i couldn't find red stain so it's actually a cherry red spray,

I haven't put anything over it except beeswax, not sure if I will either, maybe clear lacquer to stop the tacky feeling!
