    Hi,

My newly purchased Macbook Pro won't pick up my external hard drive at all at all, it doesn't even give me a message to say it doesn't like it.

The hard drive has been formatted for both Mac and PC and still works on both, just not on my machine.

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks

Try launching disk utility and post the info it displays when you select the drive.

proceed with what grizzly said, and also make sure your own mac has the most recent updates.

Post a screen grab of what it shows in the disk utility. Have you tried putting other external drives in the same port – do they show?

Now that I think of it, it didn't work on the iBook I was using before this new baby. I formatted it on a college G4 and it worked no problem there on both mac's and pc's but nowhere else.

I have another hard drive that works fine.
