Played there yesterday and what a brilliant lovely golf course but is it a bit easy? I'm an 18 handicapper and was one under for the back nine, played the best golf of my life mind you and was 9 over for the round

It's a nice course, well presented and usually in good condition. It's quite short though so if you drive well you're going to have a lot of chances to score well.

It is a short course but sometimes this makes it more enjoyable. I was listening to somebody from the R&A talking about some new initiative they were promoting called "tee it forward". Basically they were saying that if golfers used the tees most suited to their ability they would enjoy it alot more and giving my experience here (off the green tees!) it seems to make alot of sense.
I think Castleknock has alot of potential but I think it has a real feel of a Celtic Tiger club and is a LITTLE poorly maintained in some areas and I got the impression it is struggling a little with the upkeep.
I found the greens on the day to be a little bit inconsistent - some not as fast as others.

Lovely track I think, wouldn't agree with the issues with poor upkeep but saying that I was only there once so I aint qualified to comment really other than it was in tiptop shape on that day.

    Isn't there 5 * Par 3's and 5 * Par 5's out there, found that a bit strange.
The only minor negative I had was because of that.
It didnt take away from the enjoyment at all but it didn't have the same "flow" to it as some other courses.

Some of the Par 3's are gems, I normally hate Par 3's as I seem to put to much pressure on myself due to the fact the the hole is reachable and thus should always be scoring Par. I dont put same pressure on myself with 4's and 5's even though there is no real logic behind it...anyhow, I also hate water, my ball has some attraction to it.
But I loved the Par 3's with water out there, think the 11th(par 3 over water with just the green to hit) is a beaut of a hole.

Don't get me wrong, it is a nice course. I think I was just slightly disappointed on the day, I had expected it to be imacculate from what I had heard elsewhere, I went in with very high expectations.

I thought it a very nice layout, but we ended up taking 5hrs 45 for a round there on a Sunday lunchtime. It's only a small course! So I wouldn't rush back.

Ithas 15 nice holes but, in my opinion has three holes from 10-12 (I think) crammed into the space for two - it actually creates safety issues on a busy day in my opinion.

Especially if you blimp one right off the 10th tee into a car:o

Nice course but have to agree with earlier posts. The course seems to be crammed into a small space especially 10-13

I think it's a lovely course compared to some of the other options.

the course is defanged from the forward tee's. Enjoyable golf, but it's a different beast one back, not to mind the championship tee's.

re: condition, I'd have to agree that the green's were in poor nick at the end of july, and were cored and sanded at the start of August.

I think it's a lovely little track. You can score but there are card wreckers as well..the holes with water are well designed because the water is genuinely in play. As well as that, the par 3 3rd and the par 4's 4 and 14 and damn good holes and difficult.

Great par 3. Usually plays into wind too.

Castleknock off the back is a totally different course. We had a guy hitting driver into 18 with the wind into. I agree that 10-12 are a bit cramped, but they're very good holes off the back, the water hazard barely recognised off the forward tees comes right into play on #10, #11 was playing into a right/left wind had to set tee shot out over the water all carry and #12 a drive and a flick off the green was drive and mid iron. #17 I think is one of the toughest par 4's I've ever played, not just the length, but the approach shot and then the green has a buried elephant in it.

I've played it twice and think it's a great course. Will definately be back.

off topic i know but the amount of societies playing castleknock is unbelievable these days, unless you get out early, say between 7.45am and 09.00am then it's almost impossible to get a teetime at all.

    good for them.
    must be offering decent rates.
jump over the ditch to luttrellstown - good course for around 25 quid
