Internet Explorer and Adobe Flash Player

Recently loaded Windows XP Professional on my Dell Dimension 4300 (I know, not the fastest !). I looked up a you tube video (Horse Outside), but message came up on black (you tube) screen asking to upgrade the Adobe Flash Player to latest release which I did but message still shows "upgrade your adobe flash player to latest version" after loading what I believe was the latest version (ver 10)........

Interestingly I decided to download Google Chrome as my browser choice and guess what, "Horse Outside" ran smoothly without a reference to "Adobe Flash Player".............

I then went back to Internet Explorer thinking it might work, but again message on black background of you tube video say's "please upgrade to latest version of Adobe Flash Player"

Can anybody explain why Google Chrome works and Internet Explorer does not ??. Feasach

From what I understand - please correct me if I'm wrong anyone...

Internet Explorer 7 and 8 use Flash to render videos from YouTube. Google Chrome uses a new standard called HTML5. YouTube can determine whether or not you have a browser that supports HTML5 for playing the video; if not, it reverts to Flash.

Internet Explorer 9 supports HTML5, but it isn't available for Windows XP.

You could try uninstalling and re-installing Flash to try and fix the problem. :)

Chrome uses its own internal Flash installation which is not usable by other browsers, it gets updated along with Chrome itself.
