    Hi All,

Can you please give a quick help on it. I applied to one of the Canadian Universities for Master's program. When they asked me to provide official proof of my degree, I provided them the official final transcript which DIT had mailed. They replied me back stating that they want to see my original degree certificate (which is not possible as I will be having my convocation in November) stating that the transcript send by DIT states “All Examinations Results are provisional until ratified by Academic Council”. I don't understand what they mean by this. I need to register for the modules by september otherwise I will need to wait for another year. Kindly help guys, what should I do? Should I contact DIT regarding this? Will they issue another transcript to me or is this transcript which they have mailed everybody is the only one they issue. I'm very confused. I have very less time what to do as I have to start with visa process also. Please help guys!!

I had to get transcripts too, they still said "provisional" even though they're official. If you haven't been referred, they are official as the final meeting of the academic council for this academic year has already happened. They're just techno-idiots who can't get the computer to print out a copy that doesn't say provisional. Seriously, that's the issue. They can't make it not print the provisional bit. Ridiculous I know. But the exams office stamp that's on the bottom is the bit that makes them official, rather than provisional.

I dunno what you could do about Canada though. It's a different academic culture in North America. They all have their graduations as soon as they get their results like, it's crazy. You might have to get them to phone the exams office in DIT so the exams office can confirm that results at this stage are official, or maybe just try and explain the situaton? Or maybe brow beat the exams office into writing a letter stating that your exam results are official; not provisional, and that they only reason they say that blurb is because they don't know how to make it go away?

    As I said:

I don't see that there's a whole lot else you could do. Calling the exams office in the morning couldn't really do any harm though, could it? Considering it's DIT admin I'm speaking about, I don't know why I'm about to say this, but it surely couldn't be too much of an effort for them to give you a letter confirming that your transcripts are your official results and it's just a problem with their system that all trancripts have the bit about results being provisional? Or simply to say that "PERSON X's results have been ratified by the academic council and those indicated on the transcripts provided are official and final" That said, it IS DIT admin

To be honest, I would not even bother applying to DIT if they continue to treat you like this. You will be paying quite alot of money as you are not an EU citizen. Vote with your wallet OP. 10-11k is a massive amount of money to give to people that do not appear to be taking your concerns seriously. If they did, you would not have to post questions to strangers on the Internet. I hope it works out for you in the end.

You kinda got the complete opposite of the story there...

OP is Irish, doing an MA in Canada, not Canadian doing an MA in DIT

Academic Council usually happens around June/July so your exams should be signed off by now - ask the exams office to take that line off your transcript.
