Hows it going I got this puppy only a couple of weeks ago as a companion for my other dog but she dose'nt like having another dog in the house and has'nt been very nice to him so for his own good I have to let him go. He is a wonderful dog all he wants is to play and a bit of cuddle. He is great with kids and also with other dogs. It's breaking my heart to let him go but it's for his own good I would be afraid to leave him alone with my other dog. So it's not fair on either of them.<snip>Once he's going to a good home I'm happy.

Sorry, you've had him for 'a couple of weeks' and now you're selling him because your other dog doesn't like him? Can you be specific about what sort of behaviour your other dog is displaying towards him? A couple of weeks really isn't long enough to decide that it's not going to work, what age is your other dog, is he/she neutered/spayed? Is this new dog neutered/spayed? It can take a while for dogs to settle into a new home and if your other dog is older a new energetic pup can be annoying but they could certainly learn to love each other given time and the proper training/socialisation etc

First of all make sure you neuter him before he leaves you. It's to make sure he doesn't end up in the wrong hands and used for breeding in less than savoury conditions. And be very weary of who you hand him over to as unfortunately his breed makes him very desirable to the wrong sort of people.

You should try contacting EGAR http://www.egar.org/ She is based in Galway and specialises in rehoming bull breeds such as pit bulls.

my other dog is a pit/staff cross, these dogs are'nt like other breeds if they decide to go at it and fight when i'm not there i'll be coming home to one or even two dead/wounded dogs. as i care for the dogs i am not going to take that risk.

We had one of these years ago, and these breeds are EXTREMELY tenacious and willful and need 100% commitment and a lot of training, othewise they will try to rule the roost and will do anything for their own way...I dont believe these breeds are vicious by nature, but in the wrong hands they can become volatile, so please be wary about whom you rehome the dog to.

thank you for your comment, yes they really are great dogs, and i will not be letting him go to just anyone.

If you are 100% on rehoming him then I would just reiterate what Zapperzy said and make sure he is neutered before you do

Can you not seperate or keep them tied down in there own area when your gone.A few weeks is not a longtime for a new dog to settle with the others.

Although as my much as I want you to keep at it, I do think getting the dog at over 6 months is a big negative.Pitbulls are not big dogs, not even medium sized like labradors for example and 8 months he is not really a pup anymore like say an Alaskan Mal or large breed would be.

He is almost fully grown now.

    I wish you luck.

To be honest most if not all posters here have pets, and you have said the pup and your other dog didn't get on. Im not sure many would take the risk

    Have you asked your vet?

I said my other dog dose'nt get on with him not the other way around so where is the risk?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭Tranceypoo

To be fair, it's not just a question of there being 'no risk' with other dogs, there's a lot more to be taken into consideration than just going 'he's not a risk and he's cute - I'll take him'!!! And unfortunately your cute puppy is just one of many multiple thousands of dogs looking for a home in this country.
