    Hi All,

Not sure if I am allowed post this here but last year the School of Physics ran a fantasy football competition and due to the success we have decided to open it up to the entire college (staff & postgrads).

The college will not allow us advertise it as it breaches their gambling regulations.

Last year we had 40 entrants in the Physics department and the winner received a prize of €350.

Anyhow below is the email that has been circulated in the Physics department feel free to forward the information to anyone you think might be interested.

The 2011/12 Premier League season kicks off of 13th August. To add to the excitement this season we are offering you the chance to join the School of Physics Fantasy Premier League through http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
Entry is only €20 and there are lots of chances to win such as:
    - weekly prize for the top score every week for 38 weeks
    - monthly prize for the top score every month for 10 months
    - Overall prize for each of the top 3 at the end of the season
There will also be a Head to Head League per every 20 entries with prizes for each Head to Head League.
Prizes will increase/decrease depending on entries. Initial interest points to more prizes! All will be revealed soon!
If you are interested in joining the league or for more info on setting up your team, contact me by email.
If you already know how it works you can join the league with this code: 2464 5856
Entries are open to Trinity staff & postgrads. Entries will be closed on the Gameweek 3 transfer deadline- 27th August.
Unpaid entries after Gameweek 4 will be deleted from the league. There will be some info on the League forum regarding payment deadlines.
There will be weekly emails reminding you to update your team along with updates on the weekly/monthly winners. Good luck!
Feel free to forward this on to anyone in Trinity that might be interested.

    Best Regards,
    Gordon (gordon.obrien@tcd.ie)

your flyer says it's only open to TCD Staff and Postgrads. Is that correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭bobbyg

I think so but I will find out for sure, I am not organizing it I just work with the person that is organizing it.

I'm only asking because this forum is mainly populated with undergrads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭bobbyg

I have asked and he said it will be open to anyone with a TCD email address so undergrads will be welcome.

I presume the winner finished first...

Overall as in everyone who played on that site as opposed to just the physics group.

I'd definitely be interested, I won't be back from New York till the middle of September though if that's a problem?

I meant their overall position, in the overall, worldwide league.

If I could give a thumbs down to a post, I'd do it to this one.

This sounds interesting, I'll read it all properly later. I usually spend the first two or three months paying attention to FF, then slowly lose interest.

I meant their overall position, in the overall, worldwide league.

The winning score last year was 2268 and the person that won finished in the top 60th in the world, top 10 in Ireland. I finished 2nd in Physics and was about 60 points behind him. I won my other private leagues and was 300th in the World so the physics league was a fairly high standard.

The physics league was the best ran league I was in, you are get weekly updates from the organizer and there are weekly prizes along with the monthly prizes. There was also 2 head to head leagues last year with prizes for the winners.

That shouldn't be a problem just drop Gordon and email, the main thing is that you have your team in before the start of the premiership.

Sorry lads just want to point out that the league code on the flyer is incorrect you need to put a hyphen in the middle so it's 2464-5856

    Hi Lads,

Here is an updated flyer for the Fantasy Football- we probably shouldn't have being using the TCD crest!
If you want to enter but can't meet the deadline- just let me know by email and there shouldn't be a problem. It will just delay the final announcements for prizes.
I'm new to boards so Robbie will probably be on here to answer most of the questions.

    Gordon

    League Code: 2464-5856

We just setup a paid league with the ability to submit entry online via PayPal, part of entry goes to Barretstown charity - see all the details here - www.garethoconnor.ie/fpl/

Don't mean to sound rude but maybe you should set up a separate thread for your fantasy football. It sounds like a good cause but I don't think it has anything to do with Trinity College.

P.S. 100% of the entry fee in the Physics leagues goes towards the prize-pool.

Based on last years figures, the prizes were as follows.
    • 42 entries at €20- €840 total
    • 38 €5 weekly- €190
    • 10 €10 monthly- €100
    • Overall 1st- €250
    • 2nd- €100
    • 3rd- €50
    • Head to Head 1- €90(top 20 after GW17)
    • Head to head 2- €60(remaining teams after GW17)
The prizes will increase/decrease depending on entries. Hopefully we'll get at least enough entries to increase the weekly prize to €10.
Keep an eye on the league forum for updates on prizes.

The Fantasy Premier league website gave a lot of trouble on Friday evening and Saturday morning- a lot of people couldn’t log on to set up or change their teams.
Fantasy Premier League have issued an apology: http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2421213,00.html

    • We all have unlimited transfers again up until the Gameweek 2 transfer deadline of 11:30 Saturday morning.
    • There is an option to restart the league scoring from Gameweek 2.

I know of at least 3 players that failed to enter a team due to the problems logging onto the site.

Can you reply to me so I know your opinion on restarting the league scoring on Gameweek 2.
    Just reply YES or NO.
I had a good score this week but I would rather restart the scoring on Gameweek 2- I think it’s the fairest option now everyone has unlimited transfers again.

I will let you know the results of the vote tomorrow morning along with the GW1 winner. If you don’t vote today it won’t count.
The Gameweek 1 scores will count towards the August Manager of the Month Prize.

I have still yet to hear from the following players:
    1. Daniel Cahill
    2. Gareth Williams
    3. Marcin Markowski
    4. Hugh Manning
    5. Rob Elmes
These players will be deleted after the Gameweek 2 deadline if I don’t hear from them.

If you don’t have your team set up and want to join, the code is: 2464-5856
