    Hi,
(Useful info: I am 6ft 2 and live in Dublin.)

I am planning on buying a road bike, I was planning of going to Halfords and getting the Carrera TDF (or Virtusso) for approx 400, depending on which I preferred when in shop.

So I decided to post here to see if anyone has any bike hanging about in need of a new home. Anything considered really, like a bike with a carbon fork, or even a second hand Carrera TDF at a much better price? (Or some other starter bike someone upgraded from.)

    Thanks for reading!

I'm replacing my "commuter"/older race bike (mentioned in a thread here)

    Details:
60cm aluminium BH with Duraace 7700

Decent amount of steerer tube available to adjust to your size, the pedals are Look Keo's but I have a set of MTB clipless pedals if that would be preferable.

The only thing that might not not be aren't on the cards is the wheelset, which I might want to keep now have a dodgy freewheel.

I'd also be doing you a favour too as there are no spare parts available for them any more so once something goes out of true or breaks, you'd be a wheel down.
I was going to buy a set of wheels anyway for commuting on, so they wouldn't be too much of an outlay.

    Something like €250???

    Hi,
Thanks for the offer, though I don't know if 250 and having to buy wheels is truly a better bet for me than halfords..

    Though it is an idea...

Good wheels and same as Halfords.

    Hi
Thanks for info, but I don't quite understand? Those wheels and second hand bike don't seem to be that great vale for me? Or am I missing something..?

Well I'd say the BH is a much nicer bike than the carrera (depeding on how worn done and abused it is, I don't know idleater so I don't know if it's mint condition or a wreck). Even if it is the older 9 speed version, Dura ace is still a far superior groupset to the 2300 on a carrera tdf and the frame is probably a good bit lighter too. Bear in mind though depending on what kind of deal you strike with idleater you might have to buy a new cassette, tubes and tyres so the cost could be more again than 156 for the wheels (although you can get slightly cheaper shimano wheels that are still ok or go second hand) and 250 for the bike but I'd still say it's a viable option.

I'm not going to lie and say the bike is pristine, it is my current commuter 2x per week and was my winter trainer. It is duraace 7700 9 speed, probably pretty pro spec back in 2000. Its showing its age as aluminum does but is kept maintained and functions fine. More than welcome to see in the flesh so to speak.

I'd second what Tonyandthewhale said, if the BH is anyway in decent nick you're getting good value, better components, though older, better quality frame etc. Someone may come along and argue the opposite, but if I were in your shoes, I'd be looking at the BH at least.

    Thanks for all the info,

And yes, maybe it is worth a look but I don't know if any increase in component quality would matter that much just yet, and these below deliver to my door (which is a large advantage):

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RALEIGH-100-ROAD-RACING-BIKE-RRP-499-99-VARIOUS-SIZES-/380329895285?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&var=&hash=item9757f8343c

    Again thanks for the input.

GBP 40, so the whole lot comes to under 400 euro. I met someone who got one and it is a nice bike (in my opinion!).
