I'm in no way saying anything untoward in this email or trying to start a row or to spread rumours.
But I did notice that in all the sports news on Big darren winning the open I never once seen him mention Padraig. He always mentioned Rory and Graeme. Maybe he did mention Padraig in some report I didn;t see ?
Do you think it a tad strange ??

Harrington doesn't drink, problem right there... not part of darren's gang...

Not strange or weird. Just because they all hail from the same island doesn't mean they have to get on or be friends.

To be fair before you try and read a North/South thing into this, McIlroy and McDowell are both Proteges of Darren Clarke, so mentioning them would make alot of sense.

Harrington and himself have been competing against each other for over 20 years...

Do you think if Monty HAD won a Major he'd be talking about Nick Faldo.

That said I'm fairly sure in one of his interviews he mentioned Padraig as "The man who started the ball rolling"

And I'll think you'll find that McGinley and himself are best mates (unless they've fallen out in the last few years)

It’s been brilliant but it wasn’t just G-Mac and Rors,” Clarke said. “It was Padraig and for Irish golf in general, his major wins and the way he achieved them, he got the ball rolling.
“I was slightly ahead of Padraig in the sense that I was on tour before him. And then he started winning majors and played fantastic and then G-Mac has won the US Open and Rory has won the US Open a couple of weeks ago and I have managed to win the Open. It’s just an incredible run of form for people from home.”

Great stuff. So he did mention Padraig. Excellent. maybe I was watching too much Sky and only came across the Rory and Graeme bits.:)

Padraig actually shook Clarke's hand on the driving range before he played the final round. Padraig obviously doing serious work on the range

Serious work on the range indeed.
I was lucky enough to go to the British Open on the Thursday and Sunday. Followed Harrington's round on Thursday (seen a good bit of the course ;)) and then relaxed at the 18th to watch some of the last groups come in.
Said to the fella I was with, "we should pop up to the range before we leave, bet any money Harrington will be there" Sure he was, not quite on his own, I think there was one other player there I couldn't put a name to. The hours he puts in are incredible. Why was he there on the Sunday though having missed the cut?

True enough, but there's plenty other ranges he could have been working at? Perhaps he just decided to stay the weekend wherever he was staying... most players would just head away once they've missed a cut like that.

Bob Torrance his swing coach was with him as he was down to watch the Open. It made sense to stay there and do a bit of work.

Of course...typical accountant... the range balls were free..:D:D:D

Clarke, McDowell and McIllroy are all Northern Irish.

Sounds like you are making Darren Clarke out to be an alcoholic who thinks - you don't drink, you can't be friends with me.

OP, I would say he mentions Rory and Graeme a bit more because they are both from Northern Ireland as he is. Perhaps himself and Padraig Harrington are good friends but he just doesn't feel the need to mention him all the time to prevent people thinking they hate each other.

Bob Torrence his swing coach was with him as he was down to watch the Open.

This is exactly why he stayed. Apparently Bob Torrance was staying for the weekend and Harrington was able to book him for 2 days more or less un-interrupted.

Strange thread is strange...maybe they are not as good pals as he is with Mcilroy and Mcdowell..pretty simples i would have thought.

I seen this interview, I thought he went out of his way to mention Harrington's success and what it meant for Irish golf.

Padraig is contracted as an ambassador for golf by the R&A as is Susan Pettersen –who was also hanging around for the weekend.

So He was "hanging around" because he was working
