    Also worth considering the Clio.

The Fiesta is the most recently released of the bunch and will be the most up to date.

If you can find one, a 1.3 lt diesel Panda will do at least 70 mpg plus. As far as I know they are only available in the UK, but there is a few imports around. They are reliable and are easy to maintain. Tyres etc. are all nice and cheap. Probably the most all round economical car you can own. Owners always rave about them.

The new model fiesta is the best of the bunch if you can stretch that far.

I have a 08 207 hdi, feels very well built and safe, had it now for over a year and only fault was that the windscreen washer froze in the cold snap and blew the fuse apart from that never had any problems.
Fuel eccommy is excellent but find a little tiny bit underpowered (1.4 hdi) but woundnt put me off buying one again.
    Any questions let me know.

I have a 2011 VW Polo 1.2 diesel (not Blue Motion) and very disappointed with mpg. only doing 51-54mpg (full tank mixed driving) when it is claimed to do 70mpg+. Other than the mpg side it is a very comfortable trouble-free car - but was bought to be economical

In fairness 54mpg is pretty good.

What kind of driving are you doing?

A lot of urban runs, or motorway driving at > 120 km/h?

The 74mpg would be quoted as the max possible under non real world conditions, you are never going to get the manufacturers quoted mpg in any car.

Wouldn't have much reason to complain if I were you tbh. I'm getting 46 mpg from mine and a lot of folks would consider that quite frugal.

Stick to something you can sell when you're finished with it would be my advice, its a utility car.

That basically stuffs Renault, Fiat, Etc Etc. (all trouble secondhand...)

Valid or not, you're looking at VW or better - Skoda.
