I have to confess,I'm not a soap addict at all, although I used to love Corrie, but that has now just become another tv show.

Would any producer have the balls to do this....instead of having these soaps on 3-4-5 times a week,go back to just having 2 episodes, concentrating on good writing, giving characters a chance to develop, instead of the dross that is on now.

I can't watch Eastenders,it is possibly the worst programme ever made,Emmerdale hasn't been the same since Mr Wilks kicked the bucket,Corrie hasn't had any decent characters since the days of Percy Sugden and Phyllis Pearce.

Quality, not quantity is what we need, but they are just to afraid to do this, because the bods that run the networks are just too lazy to come up with original programming to fill up the airtime that these soaps fill at the moment.

It'll never happen,as a previous poster has said,at least the dog will benefit, more walks for him.......and me........

    Rant over.....as you were

This will never happen as soaps are big ratings winner and ratings means money so why would they reduce their episode count, therefore reducing profits.

I agree,it's just the "quality over quantity" thing I'd love to see, absolutely no chance of it happening though:(:(

its not as if the writers write the scripts knowing they are ****e, and what might not seem good to you might seem good to the majority of others.for me its unrealistic to ask for a soap to have constant good stories as even though its fiction it still has to be realistic and ya wont catch murder circles love triangles and blazing gun fights in any part of the world... well maybe mexico but not here anyway

    Yes its possible.

A well written soap will always attract a high audience. the problem is that if its limited to a couple of times a week the cast would have to be greatly reduced and the stories would have to focus on a very narrow band of charachters. Best example: "Glenroe", or better still the far too short lived "Bracken". But if its well written with quality actors it will succeed.

As to your question whether a producer has the balls to do this? Yes, there are some out there who do have the courage to do it. Regrettably its not them but the people who control the strings to the money purse who have the say so, and for the most part they are guided by ratings.
