Innsbruck skiing

Planning a ski trip at Christmas with girlfriend and have a couple of Q's on Innsbruck.

    1. Are the ski areas far from the town centre?

    2. Are the ski areas linked? It seems from research that you get a bus to one ski area and its quite small and to get to other areas involves more travel i.e. can you ski between the different areas.

    3. I would be interested in red/black runs but the girlfriend would be looking for lessons and gentle slopes. Would the area cater for this?

    4. My worry is that if the GF is getting lessons we will be in the one area for the week and it will be small and a bit boring after a few days. Is this a valid concern?

    5. Any recommendations of where to stay. Hotels/B&B's etc.?

    6. Aside from Innsbruck is there anywhere else people would recommend? We are looking for a good ski school with some black runs, a clean private room (i.e. no dorms), some decent restaurants and budget is very important (I know asking a lot:D). We have looked at Dolomite superski but accommodation seems very limited and expensive.

    Thanks guys.

Id understand staying in Innsbruck if you just want to go skiing for one day of your holiday. There are plenty fo options for that too.

If its a ski holiday your after why are you staying in Innsbruck and looking to travel to the ski areas everyday. Why not stay in a ski resort and save your self a lot of hassel. There are tons of great ski resorts under 2 hours away from Innsbruck.

    Ski areas are not linked

Nordpark /Seegrube is accessed via a train from the centre of Innsbruck

Axamer Lizum , maybe best for begginers.

If you get a ski pass from the tourist office it covers 9 areas. Every morning at around 9 buses run to the resorts and back in the evening.
