Repeat Help - Ba Arts

Alright, zero people currently viewing this forum.. not a good start!

    Hi guys,

I'm a first time poster, so you could say that this is my last resort.

I failed a couple of subjects in Semester 1, so now I'm looking forward to repeating them in August. There's one problem, though. I've absolutely NO IDEA what will/can/might come up on the subject. I didn't sit the exam back in Dec, and I've no contact with anyone in that class.

So, what I've tried so far is:

    - Emailing my tutor. 3 weeks have passed and no reply. Bitch.
    - Checking moodle. She doesn't post ANYTHING on there. There's literally not a scrap of information.
    - Obtaining past exam papers. Apparently, it's too late to get them now. If I wanted them, I'd have to wait over a month.. so chances are that won't do me any bloody good.

What can I do? Is there a policy or something whereby tutors have to email you back? I'm getting pretty desperate at this stage.

As well as that - I don't have notes from class, she didn't hand out notes. I have nothing to work off.

Class is Biblical Studies as a minor for First Year Ba Arts, btw.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

    lol

on a serious note, if you attended lectures surely you'd have some idea what might come up. you did attend lectures didn't you?

Seriously? Lol. You think I'd have the cheek to post if I just skived the whole year?

Yes, I attended the majority of lectures. If you read my whole post you'd notice that she didn't give us anything to work on. I have zero notes from class time, nothing on moodle, and the witch is uncontactable.

We read the Bible for the whole year, and I'm being totally serious. Something like 70% of the students failed, but the majority of those got through by deferral, or whatever. Basically they don't have to resit because they only failed the one thing. In my case, I failed two exams. Both because I wasn't in the country and my excuse apparently isn't a valid one. That's another story.

Basically what I need to know is, is there a policy whereby Tutors must reply to students, or can they simply ignore them?

Thankfully I dropped that subject, but I still have to repeat. :(

Your lecturers don't have to check their emails from after June 10th or something like that, so nothing wrong with her not replying.

Best bet is go on to the WIT website and get the phone number of the head of Arts or your course. Give them a ring and they could sort you out.

As you said it's a last resort. I'm scraping the barrel thinking of any idea here!

    Thanks, Calla. :)

I've actually made a breakthrough and contacted the Freedom of Information officer, who can supply exam papers and marking schemes. The only trouble is, it takes 4 weeks for the request to go through..... hopefully that'll be enough time.

If anyone else finds themselves in the same position, you can contact her:

Someone from the class found this thread and kindly emailed me the paper. I've also sent off to the Freedom of Info officer and paid for the paper, hopefully I'll get that before the exam.

I couldn't find any trace of them on Moodle, Horgan. Thanks anyway.

A mod can lock/delete this thread now. :)

What do you mean, somewhat sociable? What kind of weirdo has no contact with his class.

    Something odd with you chap.

If you go onto a wit computer you can actually download old exam papers from going to www.wit.ie then, Exams--> past exam papers.
You must be on the wit network to do this. If she really is as bad as you say, then glady complain to the course leader or head of the college. I'm sure if 70% of the students failed it she can't be a good lecturer and just loves living off peoples misery

    Something odd with you chap.

I'm not a chap, but that's beside the point.

Something is most definitely wrong with you, 'chap', if you think that everyone is mindlessly obsessed with ****ing FaceBook.
Open your bloody eyes, just because I don't have FB doesn't mean I'm not sociable or I don't have a life.

IN FACT... I'd go as far as saying because you have a FB that you're NOT sociable. Why is having a FB = to having a social life these days? SERIOUSLY?????? That's absolutely crazy.

    Such a troll.

    Thanks Areya. :)

Can a moderator please lock this thread.

    mmmmm something amiss here,
the lecturer is a bitch because she's on holidays and you dont do social contact with people you sit in class with? You had months to get the past papers....And you're planning your career around biblical studies......?

you shall be an ideal monk!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 L0u

Are you being serious? I actually can't handle this.

NO I'M NOT BUILDING A ****ING CAREER AROUND ****ING BIBLICAL STUDIES, I'M A ****ING ATHEIST FOR ****S SAKE.

I HAVE DROPPED THIS CLASS NOW, AS I SAID ABOUT 70 TIMES THROUGHOUT THIS THREAD.

How does one go about locking a thread around here? I'm sick of these idiotic, unhelpful responses.
