Replacing reverse lights and misc

    Hi all,

I know zilch about cars so hoping some can help me with prob some very easy task.

Car is a 2002 ford focus zetec petrol 2.0

I didnt even know there was such thing as reverse lights until someone stopped behind me the other day to say my reverse lights were gone.

is there a fool proof way of replacing them. checked later, they seem to be the middle bulb out of the three - brake light and alarm light do work

other bits - the boot seems to fall down now without warning intermittently. dangerous enough if you are taking things out of the boot - how do I remedy this?

Finally the battery went a few months ago but before we got it replaced, we got a jump start from some lad who passed me. we used his fairly rough jump cables. they seem though to have short circuited something in the radio as the power is totally dead on it now. some grey air came through the vents at the time. garage has a look when they replaced the battery and said it def wasnt the fuse gone but to go to an electrical place up the road to see if it short circuited something in the electrics.

any help greatly appreciated. car is going great apart from that. :)

Did you never wonder what the white lights where on the back of cars when they are reversing?

The reverse light on a focus is down in the bumper on the left, not in the main light units if yours is a hatchbach, on the saloon they are in the main units. Your owners manual will tell you how to change them depending on which model you have.

As for the boot, i'd imagine the gas struts that hold it up are worn.

But to be honest if you think the other bulb in the rear lights is the 'alarm light' then you should bring the car to somone who knows what they are at!

ya never really seemed to notice the reverse lights before until it was pointed out that day :D

car is similar to this one

where could i pick up replacement gas struts - ebay?

to be fair didnt suggest the other bulbs were the alarm lights. break light seems to be on top, alarm light on the bottom and the clear reverse light in the middle.

Mother of sweat Jesus. There is no 'alarm light' on the back. The light that flashes on and off is called the indicator;) This can work in conjunction with your alarm depending on how it is set up but is not an alarm light. Gas struts are fairly cheap even from a dealer. Judging by your knowledge of a car you should bring it to a garage and get a quick lesson on whats what the modern motor vehicle. Seriously you should, Im not trying to be a prick about it.

    Alarm lights?
You do not appear to be fit to drive on public roads. No knowledge of reversing lights and talking of alarm lights!

If your car is the same as the one in the link you posted then the reverse light is nowere near the brake light or indicator.....I mean alram light:P
Its down on the left side of the rear bumper.

Seriously though, I fail imagine a situation where someone with a licence to drive a motor vehicle on a public road could not have any knowalage of reverse lights or indicators!
