I stayed at the Velkommen Inn when backpacking Asia.

Edvin, the Norwegian owner's a good guy and very helpful with arrangements etc.

Only 3 rooms though they have opened another place here - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293940-d2079823-Reviews-Velkommen_Guesthouse-Phnom_Penh.html

I stayed in a place called Nomads/Encounters (same place). Found it on Hostelbookers.com .It was really cheap, meet a few others travellers, decent breakfast, laundry, hot showers, and the owner Martin (English) is 100%. He will tell you all you need to know about the place.

Loved Phnom Penh... Stay in Okay Guesthouse. Seriously, it's great for meeting people and serves good food.

Cheers. Got a place for tonight, will check out some of those tomorrow. For anyone that's here, the Gym sports bar will be showing the hurling on Sunday, it's on 178th street.

I stayed in here. Nice. Cheap by Irish standards, so once we felt we could splash out! Easy to meet people in the surrounding bars.

There are places near the lake where you can get a room for about $4 per night.

Yup, "Number 9 Guesthouse" is one. Not bad for a budget choice, and it's good for meeting people, nice views.

That is if it hasn't sunk?

Yeah Number 9 is the one.

Great for mixing with people, watching movies, pool etc but the amount of rubbish in the water, under the rooms is not a great sight.

Good times there having said that.
