I will be in the area of the Menin Gate in a few weeks.

Should anyone want me to check an entry on it for them and make a photograph, post up or pm me the details and I will post it back up in this thread at the end of the month.

Any requests should come before 12th August ;)

For R Dub Fusilier - good news, I located all the names you provided on the Menin memorial.

Despite the immense size of the memorial, there was not enough space for all the names of the missing so the 34,000 plus remaining names are etched on the wall in Tyne Cot Cemetary.

    Here are your pics:

thanks a million HerrScheisse. the photos look great. James Connolly was 17 when he was KIA and his medals were some of the first i bought. maybe others on boards might find a name they are looking for in the photos you posted.

    thanks again

No bother at all - glad to help. It is shocking that so many names represent just a fraction of the dead.

The ceremony of the Last Post is also very impressive in its simplicity. And so very solemn, it ends suddenly and there is just silence - no applause, or resumption of chattering, just respectful silence. And quite some people attending, several hundred at least.
