    Don't. You'll lose it all. They're knackered.

They are now but they cant go much lower and if you are investing in the long run there is a chance you could make some money... I think not putting all your eggs into the one basket is key. Invest an amount that if they do become worthless your not totally ruined!

If bank nationalised, which seems likely, you'll loose the lot. We bought €10,000 of AIB two years ago at €2.00 a share thought they couldn't go much lower. Went to 37c back u[ to 3.50 and sold them. Then it was nationalised. Lucky escape.

The OP didn't ask for opinions on buying BOI shares. He asked how to buy them.

If you are a new investor one way to go is to open a online trading account - these are much cheaper that stock brokers, however you have full control over what you buy and don't normally get any advice on your purchases.

I use optionsxpress.com - they have a charge of 15 dollars per transaction.

You'll need to open an account with these.

    Transfer money to your account

    buy x amount of shares.

    then your done.

well if this news doesnt drive up the share price , nothing will , considering how low they are at the moment , a 100% rise by year end wouldnt be all that fancifull

I can easily see 20c by Q4 2011 and 35c by Q2 2012, Last Irish bank to remain in overall private control, gov reducing their stake but keeping 15%,
Noonan understands that total nationalisation of irish banking system not a good move for irish recovery and possible return to bondmarkets during 2012-2013, I still maintain my stake and am confident this bank offers an exellent mid-longterm investment opportunity for those who doint need to access capital for 2-5 years.

i bought 5 k worth of shares this morning , bought 500 euro worth of irish life shares last december , managed to escape with 275 euro in the spring when it was still at 75 cent , regarding BOI , id be happy to get a modest profit out of it , i see a lot of people adopting a short term policy on this one due to the fragility of the banking system , plenty of sharp rises and drops ahead in the next few months with previously burned investors seeking to regain some ground but who dont want anything to do with BOI long term , a bunch of wealthy investors will quite clearly play a long game though

there will be 30bln shares in issue post this capital raise, you are forecasting that it will return to a market cap of 10.5bln in less than a year's time. the last time the bank was worth that was end of 2007 - the price target is fanciful to say the least

Market Cap doesn't matter when you're pulling figures from thin air

I can sleep perfectly well whilest holding boi, I expect a rights issue to occur possibly during Q1-Q2 2010 with issue being over subscribed, I believe sp will reach 4.00euro by Q4 2010.

Prem Watsa and Wilbur Ross are buying.

If they were to buy in the market the price would rocket up so they need to buy at the RI, doesn't mean it won't go below their buy in price.

Could purchasing call options at the current market price be a good play? My thinking is with a 9-12 month tenor there could possibly be more clarity regarding the outlook for Ireland and its banks allowing a better decision on BOI going forward (while locking in the very low current price).

I have opened an account with Optionsxpress but I can only find options on the Bank of Ireland ADR. Anyone recommend a broker who writes options on the euro denominated share?

Also any ideas regarding what % of the current market price would I be looking at in terms of call premium? would its cost be prohibitive?

I am entitled to 50 thousand bank of Ireland Rights Issue. I can leave these shares for 2/3 years, but I don’t want to lose out either. I am already bitten by the previous right issue. What should I do?

Keep your money! and remember Profit is a Concept Cash is King! If I had sold my BOI shares when they were €18.50 I would be €70k better off now, but I did'nt and what I hold is now worth no more than about €2k .

a call to buy IRE at $1.50 in Jan 2012 (stock at 1.50) now, would cost you about 25c

think you've already missed the deadline here
