Nutrition before running

What do you eat before a run to 'fuel up'? I usually come home from work and have a banana or 2 then half an hour later head out.

Is it a good idea to have a handful of nuts or better to have dairy before a run? I want to have the energy to run but not overload by having a full dinner

Sorry that these may be basic questions but I'm a complete newbie.

If i've eaten properly during the rest of the day I normally wouldnt eat anything at all before going out training after work. If lunch was very early or not especially good and I was feeling a bit lacking in energy I'd have a banana or flapjack or something in work just before leaving to go home, and then you're set to hit the road once you're in and changed.

It really depends how far you're running. I normally go running after work, if I knew I was doing 15+ miles I'd eat a bit extra at 4pm, otherwise my normal lunch at 1.30 is plenty.
